What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Composer Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Composer Assistant, you typically need a solid background in music theory, composition, and audio editing, often supported by formal music education or relevant coursework. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Logic Pro, Pro Tools, or Cubase, as well as notation software such as Sibelius or Finale, is essential. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you manage schedules, coordinate with musicians, and interpret creative direction. These abilities are crucial for supporting the composer efficiently, ensuring high-quality music production, and maintaining smooth workflow in fast-paced environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Composer Assistants in supporting music projects?

Composer Assistants often juggle multiple tasks, such as managing sheet music, organizing audio files, and coordinating communication between composers, musicians, and production teams. One common challenge is adapting quickly to changing creative directions and tight deadlines, especially when working on film or television scores. Successful Composer Assistants are detail-oriented, proactive, and flexible, ensuring smooth workflow and supporting the composer’s vision. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential for navigating the fast-paced, team-oriented environment typical of music production.

What Does a Composer Assistant Do?

Composer assistants work under a senior composer and help them throughout the process of creating their musical project. In this role, your job duties may involve helping record audio or music, adjusting each sound, using electronic systems, installing and managing software, managing physical cables, and performing any other task necessary to keep the studio functioning properly. Many details of this job depend on what the composer needs you to do each day, so flexibility and the ability to learn new things quickly are essential to success in this role. Composer assistants may also direct other employees, complete administrative tasks, manage budgets and payments, and help maintain morale.

About the Team

Composer sits at the center of Klaviyo's strategy to define the future of AI-native marketing. As Klaviyo's AI-powered marketing orchestration product, Composer helps marketers move from an idea to launch-ready campaigns, flows, audiences, and content through a conversational experience dramatically reducing manual effort and making AI a true execution layer for marketers. The Native Composer team is responsible for shaping how AI agents operate across Klaviyo's core product surfaces from content generation and campaign creation to workflow orchestration, analytics, optimization, and support. Sitting at the intersection of AI systems, product experience, platform architecture, and go-to-market strategy, the team is building the foundation for intelligent, AI-native marketing workflows.

In this role, you will help define how AI agents interact with users across one of the leading marketing platforms in the industry. You'll shape the systems, workflows, and experiences that enable marketers to move faster, make smarter decisions, and execute more effectively with AI as an active collaborator. By improving the quality, extensibility, and intelligence of Composer, you'll help establish Klaviyo as a leader in agentic marketing software while driving meaningful customer and business impact. Please note this is a hybrid role that requires 3 days/week in our Boston office. Fully remote candidates will not be considered at this time.

The Role

We're looking for a Lead Product Manager to own the strategy and execution for Native Composer, Klaviyo's in-app AI assistant and orchestration experience. In this role, you will define how marketers interact with AI across Klaviyo's product ecosystem, shaping experiences that combine conversational interfaces, sub-agents, workflow automation, and intelligent recommendations into a cohesive execution platform.

You'll work closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Research, and GTM teams to build scalable agentic systems that are reliable, extensible, and deeply integrated into marketer workflows. This includes defining orchestration patterns, onboarding new skills and agents, improving agent quality and usability, and ensuring Native Composer and Standalone Composer evolve cohesively where appropriate. This role is ideal for a product leader who enjoys operating in highly ambiguous, fast-moving environments and is excited about shaping the future of AI-native software experiences.

What You'll Do

  • Define and own the product vision and roadmap for Native Composer.
  • Own the end-to-end in-app AI assistant experience, including conversational UX, sub-agent orchestration, and expansion into native product surfaces such as sidebars, inline assistance, floating action buttons, and full-page workflows.
  • Partner with Engineering and Design to translate marketer workflows into scalable agentic experiences across Klaviyo's core product surfaces.
  • Define the contribution framework for skills and agents across 7+ contributing teams, including integration patterns, quality standards, evaluation processes, and operational guardrails.
  • Drive convergence between Native Composer and Standalone Composer where shared systems and experiences create leverage.
  • Improve the reliability, usability, and effectiveness of AI-powered workflows across campaign creation, audience building, analytics, optimization, and support.
  • Partner with Marketing, Operations, Customer Success, and Sales teams to shape product positioning, packaging, and go-to-market execution.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand emerging workflows, pain points, and adoption drivers for AI-assisted marketing.
  • Define and track key product and operational metrics related to adoption, retention, agent quality, workflow success, and customer impact.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across Product, Engineering, Design, Research, Data Science, and GTM organizations.
  • Communicate product strategy, tradeoffs, and execution priorities clearly across stakeholders and executive leadership.

Who You Are

  • 7–10+ years of product management experience, including ownership of technically complex or platform-oriented products.
  • Experience building AI-powered products, conversational interfaces, workflow automation systems, or agentic experiences.
  • Strong technical depth with the ability to partner closely with engineers on systems architecture, orchestration, integrations, and scalability.
  • Track record of building customer-facing products on top of sophisticated backend or platform systems.
  • Experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives with multiple stakeholders and contributing teams.
  • Strong customer empathy and ability to translate complex workflows into intuitive product experiences.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience influencing senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking capabilities.
  • Experience in marketing technology, SaaS platforms, productivity tooling, or AI copilots is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with evaluation systems, AI quality frameworks, or LLM-powered experiences is a plus.
