What are compliance services?

Compliance services are professional services that help organizations adhere to legal, regulatory, and industry standards relevant to their operations. These services may include auditing, risk assessments, policy development, training, and ongoing monitoring to ensure that businesses meet all required compliance obligations. By using compliance services, organizations can minimize legal risks, avoid fines, and build a culture of ethical practices. These services are commonly utilized in industries such as finance, healthcare, and manufacturing, where regulatory requirements are particularly stringent.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in compliance services, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in Compliance Services often encounter challenges such as staying updated with frequently changing regulations, managing large volumes of documentation, and ensuring organization-wide adherence to compliance policies. To manage these, it’s important to develop strong organizational skills, maintain open lines of communication with other departments, and leverage compliance management software to track regulatory changes and deadlines. Regular training and collaboration with legal teams also help address complex compliance scenarios efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in compliance services, and why are they important?

To thrive in Compliance Services, you need a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, risk management, and industry-specific compliance requirements, often supported by a degree in law, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with compliance management software, audit tools, and certifications such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) are typically required. Attention to detail, strong ethical standards, and excellent communication skills help professionals effectively interpret regulations and collaborate across departments. These abilities are essential for ensuring organizations adhere to legal and ethical standards, thereby minimizing risk and maintaining operational integrity.

The Work You'll Do:
Sovos is seeking a Senior Compliance Services Representative to deliver tax compliance services to large and complex clients. In this role, you will serve as a trusted resource and extension of clients' tax compliance environments, bringing expertise in data management, regulatory deadlines, and complex problem resolution. • Identify, prioritize, and resolve client issues; coordinate with appropriate internal departments to provide timely responses and solutions
• Provide guidance and support to Compliance Services Associates and Representatives in building domain expertise and resolving client issues
• Maintain goals and key measures to ensure progress and alignment with desired business outcomes for clients
• Identify process improvement and standardization opportunities; offer suggestions to build internal efficiencies, reduce risk, and lead internal improvement initiatives
• Foster continuous improvement efforts; contribute ideas and feedback to generate innovative solutions for ongoing company enhancements
• Develop reusable documentation and training materials; facilitate training sessions
• Work with clients and federal, state, or local jurisdictions to investigate complex issues and negotiate solutions
• Leverage AI tools and automation to streamline day-to-day workflows and improve output quality; apply critical judgment to review, validate, and refine AI-generated content for accuracy, relevance, and alignment with Sovos standards
What We Need From You
• Experience delivering tax compliance or client services in a complex, deadline-driven environment
• Familiarity with tax information reporting, ACA, sales and use tax, FATCA, unclaimed property, or certificate management
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple client priorities simultaneously
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex client issues with a consultative approach
• Ability to mentor and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative team environment
• Proficiency with technology platforms, including software applications relevant to tax compliance services
• Commitment to data privacy and confidentiality; understanding of protocols around personally identifiable information (PII)
• Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check and drug test upon hire
