EXP's Infrastructure & Transportation Practice provides comprehensive planning, design and construction engineering services for all types of roadway, bridge, water resource, rail, transit and aviation projects. With a unique multidisciplinary team approach, we have a history of successfully delivering some of the most complex infrastructure projects in the Midwest.  We are currently looking to grow and enhance our practice and are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Senior Structural Engineer for our Wisconsin Operations (Milwaukee, Madison or Appleton areas). The ideal candidate will work directly under the supervision of the Department Manager - Bridges & Structures with a focus on highway and railway related structures. Project types will be diverse and include, but not limited to, new structures, rehabilitation of existing structures, and inspection and evaluation of existing structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and railway facilities. The projects will involve a wide variety of structure types, foundations and materials for clients such as WisDOT, Counties, and Municipalities.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Lead the structural design for all project types, including complex bridge designs;
  • Lead the planning and schematic/geometric layout of new structures;
  • Perform analysis and design calculations according to the applicable design codes; use computer programs as appropriate;
  • Prepare plan drawings and details, construction specifications and design calculations;
  • Lead on-site inspection, analysis and condition assessment of existing structures;
  • Perform Construction and Life Cycle Cost estimates and prepare load rating calculations;
  • Oversee project construction administration including reviews of shop drawings and Requests for Information;
  • Supervise and direct staff engineers and technicians to meet project deadlines as well as scope and budget requirements; and
  • Assist project managers with scoping and budgeting for structural work and be responsible for quality assurance of deliverables.

What your experience looks like

  • 10 years progressively responsible relevant experience.
  • MS in Civil Engineering - Structures track required.
  • Licensed PE in Wisconsin or ability to obtain.
  • Bridge Inspection experience, including NHI Course preferred
  • Prior experience with complex bridge projects a plus.
  • Knowledge of bridge analysis, design and detailing as it pertains to WisDOT Bureau of Structures requirements, and local agencies and applicable design codes as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of structural analysis software including MDX, LARSA, PS Beam (or CON-SPAN), ET Pier/SP Column (or equivalent), AASHTOware, L-Pile/GROUP, PY-WALL (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Proficient with AutoDesk Civil3D, MS Office software, and/or Bentley's MicroStation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to direct and supervise staff engineers and technicians.
  • Strong leadership, project management skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to mentor structural engineers.
