Summary of the role:



Reporting to the Manager, the Solar Installer will work with the construction team in solar PV installation. 



What you will be doing (essential responsibilities):



  • Assist construction staff to complete solar installations
  • Assist in roof & ground crew duties necessary for a successful solar installation. Including but limited to; roof layout, roof penetrations, racking assembly, conduit/ raceway installation, balance of system installation, and commissioning
  • Ensure that all solar installations are installed according to GRID Alternatives safety and quality standards
  • Assist construction staff in staging, loading, and unloading equipment, including packing and unpacking parts, boxes, and bins from trucks before and after installation projects
  • Conduct site visits to screen potential sites for solar access and safety issues
  • Assist with service calls
  • Other job duties include hardware store runs, answering homeowner and volunteer questions, and generally participating in activities vital to make solar happen for income-qualified communities/families 
  • Treat clients, contractors, and co-workers, and members of the public with kindness and respect
  • Comply with all company policies, including company safety policy

Requirements

Your areas of knowledge and expertise...



  • Excellent communication skills and able to represent GRID Alternatives positively
  • Comfortable being part of a team
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to ascend/descend a ladder to install and service solar systems.
  • Comfortable in outdoor weather conditions
  • Clean, valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, green jobs and/or helping families and communities in need 



It would be great if you also had...


  • Knowledge of introductory solar theory
  • NABCEP Associate Certification or solar installation experience a plus

Compensation:




The compensation range for this fulltime position is $24/hr-$27.50/hr . The base pay that will actually be offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience and take into account internal equity.

Where you will sit & the places you may go...



The ideal candidate will sit in Sacramento, CA. This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as org-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
