Job description

Job Summary:

Zymo Research is seeking a Social Media & Community Manager to own our organic social presence and build meaningful engagement with the scientific community.

This role will translate product stories, brand initiatives, scientific resources, programs, events, and community opportunities into social content that feels credible, useful, visually engaging, and relevant to researchers. The goal is not to simply promote products, but to build trust, connection, interest, and long-term affinity for the Zymo brand.

The right person is a strong writer, thoughtful visual communicator, and natural community builder who understands how to create content that is both engaging and on-brand.

Join us in making a meaningful impact!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Organic Social & Community Engagement

  • Own Zymo's organic social presence across key platforms, with a focus on LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube. Manage the content calendar, draft posts and captions, engage with comments, mentions, messages, and tags, and help Zymo show up as a credible and human presence in the scientific community.

Social Storytelling & Program Amplification

  • Work with Marketing, Product Marketing, Commercial, Scientific Communications, and Creative teams to identify stories worth sharing. Turn product launches, scientific resources, collaborations, grants, webinars, events, user stories, and community opportunities into social-first content that builds trust without feeling overly commercial.

Brand Voice & Visual Communication

  • Maintain Zymo's social voice: scientifically credible, warm, direct, useful, and never generic. Bring strong visual judgment to the role by understanding how copy, imagery, layout, pacing, and platform format work together to create content that is clear, engaging, and on-brand.
  • You do not need to be the primary designer, but you should understand design principles well enough to brief creative partners, evaluate content quality, and recognize when something needs to be stronger.

Social Insights

  • Track organic social performance with a focus on engagement quality, audience growth, content resonance, and community signals. Share clear insights on what is working, what audiences are responding to, and where there are opportunities to improve.

Education and Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in social media, community management, brand communications, or content strategy.
  • Strong writing ability with the ability to create clear, engaging, and credible social content.
  • Experience managing organic social accounts, especially LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Strong editorial and visual judgment, including an understanding of what feels valuable, on-brand, engaging, or too promotional.
  • Ability to translate product, commercial, technical, and scientific inputs into content that builds trust, connection, and interest.
  • Strong understanding of how copy, imagery, layout, pacing, and platform format work together in social content.
  • Community-first mindset with the ability to build engagement through conversations, not just broadcasting.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to work with marketing, product, commercial, creative, scientific, and brand stakeholders.
  • Basic understanding of social performance metrics and how to turn results into useful insights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in life science, biotech, healthcare, scientific publishing, B2B, or another technical field.
  • Experience building social engagement for a technical or expert audience.
  • Familiarity with YouTube, short-form video, reels, carousels, thumbnails, and platform-specific storytelling.
  • Experience supporting social amplification of webinars, events, grants, campaigns, product launches, collaborations, or user stories.
  • Basic photography, video editing, or social content production skills are a plus.
