Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Practitioner provides primary orthopedic health care, health education and health promotion in a rural clinic setting to patients of all ages. Participates in an on-call rotation with other clinic providers. Works within the scope of practice. Works in collaboration with the orthopedic surgeons and surgical podiatrist(s) under the supervision of the clinic medical director, as well as the clinic manager.
  • Patient Care
  • Practice medicine under the direction of and/or in collaboration with the WhidbeyHealth Orthopedic Surgeons and surgical podiatrist(s).
  • Assist the orthopedic surgeons and surgical podiatrist(s) in surgical procedures, including pre-operative assessments, intraoperative support, and post-operative care.
  • Works in both the hospital and the outpatient setting.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, to aid in diagnosis and treatment decision-making.
  • Obtain health history as appropriate, including patient demographics.
  • Conduct comprehensive and focused physical assessments and interpret findings.
  • Formulate a treatment and management plan based on assessment and investigation results, availability of services and special needs of patient.
  • Collaborate with and seek appropriate consultation from the orthopedic surgeons, the surgical podiatrist(s) and the supervising physician medical director and other health professionals involved in the patient's care.
  • Follows established medical protocols.
  • Accurately maintains patient records via documentation in WhidbeyHealth's electronic health record.
  • Makes appropriate and timely referrals to other health care providers when a specialist or emergency care is needed.
  • Provides patient education and counseling regarding health and wellness.
  • Team & Community Responsibilities
  • Interprets the role of the clinic to clients, other providers, and the community.
  • Maintains professional relationships with the medical community and referral base.
  • Attends & participates in Clinic Provider Meetings, All Provider Meetings, and Medical Staff Meetings and hospital system meetings as appropriate or requested.
  • Assists in coordination of services with clinic personnel to ensure effective delivery and continuity of care.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of health care delivery and reimbursement systems. Integration of information collected in the health history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests into defined problem areas. Must possess working knowledge of the growth and development of children. State laws related to prescriptions and chronic pain requirements. Communication skills, teambuilding and problem solving. Documentation, release of information and standard for patient records. Standards for infection control, safety, hazardous materials management.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) program.
Training and Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in orthopedic medicine preferred.
  • Experience with casting and splinting preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Active WA State RN & ARNP License or Active Multistate License (MSL)
  • MSL Requirements:
    • Approved 6-Hour Suicide Prevention Training Course Completion
    • Screenshot of submitted demographic data using the Washington State Multistate Nurse Demographic Data Survey.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • Active unrestricted DEA license required.
  • ARNP Board certification required.

Salary Range: $131,000 - $154,888 + up to $20K sign-on incentive
