The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Student and Young Alumni Engagement is an integral member of the leadership team in the Office of Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement. They will work closely with the Executive Director of Student, Young Alumni, and Reunion Programs to develop a vision and strategy for student and young alumni programs. The Director has primary responsibility for the design and implementation of successful student and young alumni programs and volunteer activity for the University's School of Arts and Sciences and Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences. They will monitor budgets and progress toward goals, develop program processes and strategies, and report on program status. They will work collaboratively with Alumni Relations and Advancement colleagues in each of the schools/units to coordinate and communicate activities. In addition, they will serve as a consultant and advisor to other student and young alumni-focused staff throughout the University.
The Director will oversee a staff of three who, as a team, will manage all aspects of the aforementioned. Travel may be required for this role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Student Engagement Oversight and Management

  • In consultation with the Executive Director, create a strategic direction for student engagement. Set clear measurements, evaluate results, and make recommendations for improvement. (10%)
  • Manage and supervise staff to deliver a broad range of successful student volunteer programs, including the Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAAs), Class Councils, and Meliora Weekend student volunteers. (10%)

Student Engagement Program Development and Volunteer Pipeline Management

  • In partnership with staff, organize and execute programs and events, including the Coffee or Tea with the B.O.T. series and URochester Traditions events, to engage the student body and reinforce lifelong connection to the University and alumni community. (10%)
  • Coordinate with school and unit Advancement partners to enhance their student programming and communications by sharing resources and opportunities for inclusion. (5%)
  • Identify and transition student volunteers into alumni volunteer roles following graduation. (5%)

Young Alumni Engagement Oversight and Management

  • In consultation with the Executive Director, create a strategic direction for young alumni engagement, set clear measurements, evaluate results, and make recommendations for improvement. (10%)
  • Manage and supervise staff to deliver a broad range of successful young alumni programs and volunteer opportunities, including seven Young Alumni Councils and the Young Alumni Opportunity Fund. Directly manage the Metro New York City and Boston Young Alumni Councils by recruiting, onboarding, and managing volunteers and overseeing the planning, marketing, and execution of volunteer-led programming. (15%)

Young Alumni Engagement Program Development

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, execute a strategy to engage Student Alumni Ambassador alumni through targeted communications, social gatherings, and 1:1 visits. (5%)
  • Coordinate with school and unit Advancement partners to enhance their young alumni programming and communications by sharing resources and opportunities for inclusion. (5%)
  • Work collaboratively with Advancement partners to identify and transition YAC members into other volunteer roles to continue to cultivate the next generation of alumni leaders. (5%)

Marketing and Communications

  • With communications staff and external vendors, design and implement a marketing strategy that includes print, email, web, and other media.
  • Review and modify all marketing and educational materials to ensure web pages, printed communications and collateral, e-mail messages, and other promotional vehicles for student and young alumni engagement are relevant and effective.
  • Develop and oversee a social media strategy to engage current undergraduates and recent graduates, and promote our office's programs, volunteer opportunities, and services.

Travel and Personal Outreach

  • A consistent campus presence and national travel is required for meeting with current undergraduates and young alumni for the purposes of volunteer recruitment and cultivation and sharing our alumni engagement and philanthropy message.
  • A minimum of 50 purposeful in-person or virtual meetings in a fiscal year is required.

Goal Setting and Analysis

  • Responsible for operating plans, engagement statistics reports, and analysis of student and young alumni program performance on a regular basis.
  • Manage a budget for overall program.
  • Allocate monies programs in most effective manner and monitor spending throughout year to ensure budgetary compliance.
  • Develop and implement policies relating to general Alumni Relations procedures as a senior member of the Office of Alumni Relations staff.
  • Work closely with other Advancement staff to engage existing prospects in Alumni Relations activities and cultivate and identify new prospects.
  • Continued training, professional development and gaining of overall University knowledge through regular meetings with unit-based colleagues, faculty, and staff; training on UR Advancement protocols and procedures; technical training on Advancement's prospect management system; and honing of professional skills through seminars, conferences, trainings, and individual mentoring.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Outstanding communication skills, including direct interpersonal skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop innovative programs and solutions to problems preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with, motivate, and lead volunteers is preferred.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish objectives preferred.
  • Experience with computer technologies and sophisticated software applications preferred.
  • A personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of private higher education and a desire to change the world preferred.
  • Willingness to promote philanthropy for the University preferred.
  • Evening and weekend work is required.
