Job description

Job Title:  Community Experience Assistant 

Reports To: Community Experience Manager at assigned branch

Status: Part-time,  Saturdays, 8:30-3:30PM with potential for additional hours or special events

Work Location: in-person at the branch location

Role Summary: The Community Experience Assistant provides support to the Community Experience team during high visitation times during public open hours. The primary role is to complete tasks related to visitor engagement.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

PUBLIC SPACE ATTENDANT

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment throughout the public space.
  • Ensure the beverages station is clean and stocked; prepare coffee for visitors as needed.
  • Organize public space resources, brochure holders, and bulletin boards around the building and remove any out-of-date material.
  • Update signage around the building such as chalkboards, whiteboards, or displays.
  • Support Facility Rentals & Events and Community Experience team in room set-up, including moving tables and chairs

ON-SITE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

  • Provide back-up support at the Reception Desk when the Coordinator is not available.
  • During events or programs, assist leading staff with assigned tasks to ensure successful visitor engagement.
  • Stay up-to-date on what’s happening at the Urban Ecology Center to encourage visitors to deepen their involvement.
  • Engage visitors through wayfinding and onsite engagements

ADMINISTRATIVE PROJECTS

  • Support the completion of special administrative projects identified by the Community Experience Manager and Coordinator 


TEAM AND SUPERVISION

  • You will be a member of the Community Experience team and managed by the branch’s Community Experience Manager.  
  • Though all of our teams work together in some capacity, you will most frequently collaborate with members of the Community Experience Team: Community Experience Coordinator, Community Experience Manager, Community Programs team members. 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Previous work or volunteering with the UEC is highly preferred!
  • You are comfortable talking with new people and creating connections with a friendly and vibrant attitude. 
  • You should have experience using computers to complete various tasks including navigating online resources.
  • You must be reliable and able to demonstrate positive decision-making skills.
  • You should have an affinity for the Urban Ecology Center's mission, vision, and values and be able to demonstrate cultural competency and commitment to equity, dignity, and justice.
  • Menomonee Valley: Bilingual in Spanish/English is required. Bilingual/Multilingual skills at other branches are highly preferred to support the UEC in engaging more deeply with Milwaukee’s diverse communities.


WORKING CONDITIONS, LOCATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Condition & Location: Open office workspace with an active team atmosphere. Using shared workspaces.
  • Physical Requirements: Sitting or standing for prolonged periods, typing on a computer keyboard, using verbal communication throughout the day, lifting objects of 25 pounds or less.
  • Equipment Used: Desktop computer equipment, Google software, multi-line phone system.
  • Schedule:  Saturday shifts between 8:30A to 3:30P with potential for additional weekday hours and
