Terms: Regular, Year-Round, Full-Time, Hybrid
Supervisory Responsibility: None
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Member Engagement Specialist – Mountain Communities is a community-based, part-time role responsible for supporting membership growth, volunteer engagement, and program delivery in geographically remote and rural mountain communities. This position serves as a local representative of Girl Scouts of Colorado and works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to increase access to Girl Scout experiences in assigned communities.
This role focuses on community relationship-building, program facilitation, member engagement, and local outreach efforts that support recruitment and retention goals. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, flexibility, self-direction, and the ability to work independently in rural and mountain regions with varying levels of community infrastructure and volunteer capacity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Membership Growth & Recruitment
  • Support member recruitment efforts in assigned mountain and rural communities through local outreach, relationship-building, and community engagement activities.
  • Assist with recruitment events, school outreach, and community-based engagement opportunities.
  • Support program-led recruitment efforts by helping facilitate introductory Girl Scout experiences.
  • Build relationships with schools, libraries, and community organizations to increase awareness of Girl Scouts locally.
Program Delivery & Implementation
  • Facilitate and support Girl Scout programs, events, and community-based experiences in assigned regions.
  • Assist with program logistics including communication, materials preparation, and site coordination.
  • Support school-based, pop-up, and community programs as needed.
  • Adapt program delivery to meet the needs of rural and mountain communities while maintaining safety and program quality standards.
Volunteer Recruitment, Support & Retention
  • Support volunteer onboarding and engagement efforts in collaboration with Volunteer Success staff.
  • Provide basic guidance and resource navigation to troop leaders and caregivers.
  • Help identify volunteer needs or concerns and elevate issues to appropriate support teams.
  • Encourage member and volunteer retention through relationship-building and consistent communication.
Community Presence & Relationship Building
  • Act as a consistent, trusted, and visible representative of Girl Scouts of Colorado in mountain communities.
  • Build positive relationships with local families, schools, and community organizations to strengthen community awareness and engagement.
  • Navigate cultural, logistical, and geographic barriers unique to rural and mountain communities with sensitivity and creativity.
  • Represent Girl Scouts at community events, meetings, and outreach opportunities.

Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
  • Maintain timely records of outreach activities, programs, and community engagement efforts.
  • Submit required reports, participation data, and scheduling updates.
  • Communicate consistently with supervisors and team members regarding regional activities and support needs
 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Formal Training
  • No formal education or training requirements.
Experience
  • Experience in volunteer management, membership development, recruitment, retention, community engagement, or account management preferred.
  • Experience working in community engagement, youth programs, customer service, volunteer support, or outreach preferred.
  • Experience setting ambitious goals and driving results, including lead management and member conversion.
  • Experience using customer relationship management systems (Salesforce preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking and relationship-building.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision and exercise sound judgment.
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and adaptable in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort wearing multiple hats.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
  • Bilingual and bicultural skills desired but not required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check acceptable to GSCO standards.
  • Access to reliable transportation with required insurance and willingness to travel extensively within mountain and rural regions.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to transport program materials weighing up to 30 pounds and prepare meeting spaces independently.
