Job description

General Definition of Work

Initiates and participates in community outreach, engages the general public and specific target audiences to introduce and educate about the agency’s services. Performs intermediate technical work composing and distributing customer and general public communications, creating, updating, and revising website content, revising schedule brochures, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Marketing Director.

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Plans, coordinates, and conducts community outreach activities to educate residents, employers, schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders about OmniRide services and programs.

Develops general public communications, that may include newsletters, articles, and any other written materials, including the creation of engaging digital content including graphics, short-form videos, photos, stories, reels, and written posts that promote OmniRide services, events, rider success stories, and community partnerships.

Composes, updates, and revises website and social media content.

Revises schedule brochures, including proofing and coordination with Planning and Operations team.

Prepares and conducts special projects, including building a content library, expanding outreach to potential new riders, outreach/publicity for all OmniRide services.

Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, digital media or related field and considerable experience in a communications and marketing department, social media, articles, and newsletters, public and community outreach, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community events, outreach activities, and special assignments.

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, or another language commonly spoken within the OmniRide service area, is preferred. 

Job Specifications

Thorough knowledge of and experience with communications and technology, including written, web, video, collateral materials, and social media; thorough knowledge and experience with public relations; thorough knowledge of current communications and marketing tools, technology, platforms, and practices; general knowledge of working with the media; thorough knowledge of writing and editing for a variety of print and digital communications including marketing collateral, and print/digital publications; thorough knowledge of organization rules, regulations and practices and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to multitask and prioritize workload; ability to trouble shoot and develop basic websites/digital solutions; ability to edit efficiently and accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with business and community leaders, executive management, other departments, outside agencies, and the general public.

Working Conditions

This position consists of a combination of office and field-based work, with approximately 50% of time spent in the field supporting community outreach, recruitment, and engagement events. Work is mostly sedentary when performed in an office environment and requires little exertion of force, with occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds, including event-related equipment such as tents, tables, tent weights, displays, and other materials. Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, and using hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequently requires repetitive motions; and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms, and pushing or pulling. The position may require prolonged standing and walking at events for extended periods. Standard vision requirements apply. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities. Field work and events may occur indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation. Work is generally performed in moderately noisy environments, such as business offices, community venues, outdoor events, and areas with light to moderate traffic. The position requires working evenings and weekends.
