Job description

WHO IS CHI?

Community Housing Innovations (CHI) is a not-for-profit housing and human services organization that aims to support social and economic independence. Our vision is to end generational poverty and foster upward mobility by ensuring that all families and individuals live in quality housing, have a home of their own, and a job to support them. We believe quality, affordable housing is the foundation for prosperity, personal fulfillment, and success.

    WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

    CHI is looking for a full-time driver. You will be responsible for safely, appropriately, and judiciously transporting customers from CHI locations to various community facilities.

    • Transports customers to various locations specified on Transportation Request with Agency van.
    • Schedules daily routes, prioritizing trips to the Department of Social Service, Department of Labor, and housing appointments for customers.
    • Maintains van in pristine condition, ensuring cleanliness inside and out.
    • Monitors and schedules routine maintenance of van (inspections, oil changes, tire rotation, etc.)
    • Reviews transportation requests with respective Supervisor.
    • Maintains accurate documentation of runs; logging mileage and destinations.
    • Adheres to proper use of company resources (cell phones, office supplies, vehicles, etc.).

    •Must be able to multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to details. Does not fraternize with customers; maintains a professional boundaries.
    •Drives within posted speed limits and ensures that all passengers wear required safety belts.

    ANYTHING ELSE?

    • Salary: $20.20/hour (approximately $42,016 annually)
    • Overtime available
    • Open shifts: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    WHAT DO I NEED?

    •Education: HS Diploma or GED preferred.
    •Experience: Previous driving experience preferred.
    •Certificates or Licenses: Valid NYS driver’s license and clean driving record.
    •Communication: Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
    •Physical Performance: Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects, walk distances, and climb stairs.
    •Reasoning Ability: make judgment calls, perform proper notifications, and make appropriate decisions.
    •Other Skills: Ability to relate to the underserved, homeless, and disabled populations. Work independently or as part of a team, be organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, be flexible, and must be even-tempered, Ability to provide a safe, secure environment, and to identify and defuse conflicts until a CHI social services staff member provides professional intervention.
