The Project: The operator of a major international airport is considering a further update to expand the main terminal, reconfigure concourses and phase out legacy passenger transport systems. 

Shared with airline stakeholders earlier this year, the proposed programme is estimated at c.$22 billion, with completion targeted in the mid-2030s, forming part of a wider transformation to support significant long-term passenger growth. 

By comparison, the existing master plan approved in 2025 outlined c.$7 billion of phased capital investment, aligned to projections of up to 90 million annual passengers by the end of the century.

The role:  The Community Engagement Lead is responsible for developing and delivering effective community and stakeholder engagement strategies across complex infrastructure or multidisciplinary programmes. The role ensures transparent, proactive, and inclusive engagement with local communities, businesses, and stakeholders to support delivery objectives and maintain social licence.
Acting as the primary interface with community stakeholders, the Community Engagement Lead supports issue resolution, manages stakeholder expectations, and ensures that community impacts and concerns are identified and addressed in a structured and timely manner.

You'll Be Responsible For: 

  • Develop and implement stakeholder and community engagement strategies and plans.

  • Identify, map, and manage stakeholders, including community groups, businesses, and local organisations.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for community stakeholders.

  • Coordinate and deliver engagement activities, including meetings, consultations, and briefings.

  • Manage stakeholder communications, including notices, updates, and reporting.

  • Identify and manage community-related risks, issues, and complaints.

  • Support resolution of stakeholder concerns through structured engagement and follow-up.

  • Monitor stakeholder sentiment and adjust engagement approaches as required.

  • Provide input into governance reporting, including stakeholder and community updates.

  • Interface with programme leadership, communications, and technical teams to ensure aligned messaging.

You'll need to have:

  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, stakeholder relations, or public consultation for infrastructure or major programmes.

  • Strong understanding of stakeholder engagement frameworks and best practice.

  • Experience managing complex stakeholder environments and competing interests.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

    Note: The estimated starting salary for this position is $150k. Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills and qualifications.
