Position Purpose:
The Community Engagement Specialist (CES) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing community engagement activities that support health outreach initiatives, with a specific focus on improving outcomes and increasing engagement among the senior population ages 65 and older. The CES will actively engage in the community by identifying and developing partnership opportunities, conducting outreach and tabling at community events, health fairs, senior-centered programs, and other community gatherings, while building relationships with community stakeholders and service providers. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing qualitative data to assess community needs, identify trends, and inform program development. The CES may also participate in public forums, focus groups, community listening sessions, and other engagement activities, while supporting and facilitating both virtual and in-person outreach efforts designed to increase community awareness, participation, and access to resources.
Competencies/Duties:
  • Collaborate with Community Engagement Manager to develop, implement, and oversee outreach and engagement strategies to solicit and strengthen community engagement.
  • Prepare, and present reports including narratives as well as graphs, tables, and other visuals necessary to present data collected/analyzed
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with third-party resources, including vendors and researchers
  • Organize, execute, and participate in community engagement projects, workshops and events
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify and develop programs and services that are responsive to and reflect the needs and interests of community members
  • Build and maintain relationships with the community, institutions, and organizations
  • As requested, on behalf of the client, organize and facilitate meetings with organizations, targeted stakeholders, and the public
  • Identify barriers and issues precluding the effectiveness of the program or concept relating to the project and explore solutions to overcome barriers
  • When needed, provide support for coordinated planning and execution of development and update of communication products such as annual reports, fact sheets, case studies, brochures, and promotional materials (graphics, videos, interactive media, social media, etc.)
  • Achieve established goals for the assigned project through collaboration and teamwork.
  • Attend community events to connect with members, provide education, and build relationships with community partners.
  • Develop and establish new community partnerships from the ground up to expand organizational reach and impact.
  • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities.
  • Identify, research, and initiate relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and key partners
  • Perform other related duties as needed

Education, Work Experience, Licensure:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Administration, Marketing and Communications, Public Health, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Community Development, Master Planning, Comprehensive Plans, Public Policy, or a field related, preferred
  • 2 or more years of project management experience
  • 1 or more years or community or stakeholder engagement experience
  • PMP, PgMP, CAPM, and/or comparable project management certifications are highly desirable.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain upon appointment a valid driver's license in the State of Indiana and have a good driving record

Environment/Physical Demands:
  • This position requires periodic travel to meet with client resources and assist with events.
  • Sedentary activities like driving, extensive reading, and computer work are required, applicants must have the ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles. office equipment such as computer, fax, copiers, etc. Ability to continuously stand or walk.
  • Ability to lift up to 10-25 pounds, occasionally.
