Description:

The Community Engagement Manager is a leader, arts manager and dance education professional with a proven ability to enhance existing programs and processes and identify and develop new opportunities and strategies to drive the growth of Ballet Arizona and The School of Ballet Arizona. It is a key role that is integral to creating organizational and programmatic connections, developing clarity in administrative systems and processes across all programs, cultivating compelling and effective external and internal communication, providing donor engagement, cultivation, and other philanthropy supports, and increasing Ballet Arizonaโ€™s local and national presence.

The Community Engagement Manager works closely with all other departments in the organization in addition to outside agencies for the purpose of cultivating Ballet Arizonaโ€™s reputation and presence as a strong community partner and an enduring and valuable community asset. Work requires an affinity for innovation, a commitment to curiosity and flexibility, and the exercise of independent judgment with the organizationโ€™s best interests at the heart of all decisions.

Essential functions

  • Bolster and create organizational awareness and investment in the departmentโ€™s programs and initiatives
  • Set programmatic goals and objectives and develop and implement plans for achievement, including plans for assessment, analysis, and documentation
  • Develop, maintain, and facilitate rich participant engagement opportunities through all programs
  • Create streamlined processes, workflows, collaborations, messaging, and communications for all programs both internally and externally
  • Steward deep, impactful relationships with community organizations, groups, and agencies
  • Empower and support program teaching artists, professional dancers, and studio company dancers in their roles as program facilitators and collaborators
  • Facilitate, lead, and support inter-programmatic and intra-organizational communication and relationships
  • Communicate and collaborate across departments on organizational initiatives
  • Support Community Engagement programs, including preparation, implementation, delivery, teaching, or coordination of programs on and off-site under the direction of the Director of Community Engagement, in particular Student Matinees, Performance Hour, Community Engagement Showcase, donor events, Class Act, and Creative Aging
  • Teach and/or assist with ballet classes for diverse ages and abilities, including in classes that take place non-traditional dance spaces including but not limited to DanceAZ, Creative Aging, classroom visits, and residencies
  • Work with the Philanthropy Department to submit and report on state, city, and foundation grants, and corporate gifts for relevant Community Engagement programs
  • Work with the Marketing Department to enhance Ballet Arizonaโ€™s brand awareness and community perception of the organization through educational communications and marketing strategies
  • Foster a creative, ambitious, and supportive work environment for all stakeholders who work with and for the Community Engagement Department
  • Serve as a public-facing facilitator for education events, donor events, and performance events
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Must possess a high level of digital literacy, be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and be comfortable working with databases.

Work environment

  • Work is conducted primarily in an office setting and at partner sites in the community. Event support at the main office location and at external event sites is required.
  • Some weekends, nights, or on-call work are required.


Requirements:

Physical demands

  • Physical requirements include sitting for long periods of time and heavy computer usage.
  • Medium physical effort is required โ€“ must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Travel required

  • Travel to and from external event sites (within Maricopa County) is required.
  • Must be willing and able to commute to and from the office, program, and partner sites on a regular basis.

Required education and experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Working knowledge of Classical Ballet
  • Background in dance, experience teaching dance (in public schools or nontraditional settings preferred), or formal education in dance/dance education
  • Experience as an educator or instructor
  • Experience in dance, education, and/or arts administration

Preferred education and experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in a related field preferred
  • Proficiency in Spanish desirable
  • Experience with Tessitura desirable
  • Experience in grant writing and/or event management desirable

Additional eligibility requirements

  • Applicants must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the
  • Greater Phoenix Area as needed for program delivery, meetings, and other needs.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Applicants must have or be able to obtain Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance.
