As the Outdoor Recreation Community Coordinator, you'll play a key role in creating memorable experiences that bring people together across Strathcona County. From iconic celebrations like Canada Day and New Year's Eve to meaningful events that reflect and celebrate our community, you'll lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-profile programs that make a lasting impact.

In this dynamic role, you'll collaborate with community partners, stakeholders, and internal teams to design and deliver innovative events and outdoor programs that align with Strathcona County's vision. Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver high-profile community events and outdoor programs, including major celebrations such as Canada Day, New Year's Eve, Celebration of Lights, Arbor Day, and  National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
  • Lead the coordination of large-scale community, regional, and provincial events hosted in Strathcona County
  • Provide leadership to cross-functional teams, including internal staff, community groups, boards, and external partners, to ensure successful event delivery
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and various levels of government to support event and sport tourism initiatives
  • Identify and develop partnership and sponsorship opportunities, including in-kind contributions, to enhance programs, events, and outdoor amenities
  • Oversee grant-related activities, including researching opportunities, preparing applications, and coordinating reporting requirements in alignment with government protocols
  • Support strategic planning, budgeting, and project management for community events and outdoor programming, ensuring alignment with Strathcona County priorities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess community needs, identify service gaps, and inform the design and delivery of programs and events
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance event and program quality
  • Recruit, schedule, and supervise event staff, contractors, and a large volunteer base to support safe, inclusive, and well-executed events


Qualificationsand Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business, or a related field with a minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in event planning, community development, public engagement, or a related area
  • Strong understanding of event planning fundamentals, including logistics, sponsorship, marketing, and communications
  • Knowledge of municipal operations, policies, bylaws, and community development practices, particularly as they relate to events and sport tourism
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including community organizations, government partners, and internal teams
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Experience managing budgets, negotiating partnerships, and interpreting information from multiple sources
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and familiarity with digital communication and social media tools
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended hours during major events
