About the Organization:

African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a culturally specific, community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards an informed African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community that is engaged in the holistic development of families, communities, and environment. ACHD focuses on equitable and culturally relevant health, legal, and educational services; housing stability and economic development; and land-use, real estate, and property development. Collectively, ACHD staff speak a dozen languages, and the majority identify as Black or People of Color.

About the Position:

The Community Support Coordinator will work closely with the Community Engagement Manager to provide cultural, linguistic, and advocacy services for families in different settings as well as help grow ACHDโ€™s community support initiatives. The ideal candidate is a member of the African Diaspora community and/or a case manager with experience working with a diverse community in a culturally responsive way. The Community Support Coordinator can effectively liaise between outside organizations, educational institutions, departments within ACHD, and the families we serve. The Community Support Coordinator also represents ACHD at community events and meetings with collaborating entities.


Position Duties:

ยท Work closely with Community Engagement Manager & Coordinator to maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and families

ยท Represent ACHD at various functions

ยท Facilitate family workshops along with Community Engagement Coordinator and members of the Outreach team

ยท Lead intake/consultation meetings with families in need of advocacy support

ยท Coordinate the engagement of outside services to support families as needed

ยท Track and manage participant records while ensuring confidentiality

ยท Prepare grant reporting, including data and narrative reports

ยท Provide interpretation as needed


Required Qualifications:

ยท 2+ yearsโ€™ experience working in social services, case management, education, social work, or related field

ยท Fluency in an African language, especially Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, or Swahili

ยท Associate degree in communications, social work, criminal justice, or related field

ยท Comfortable in various multicultural settings

ยท Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines

ยท Strong verbal communication and writing skills

ยท Valid WA state driverโ€™s license

ยท Acceptable results of a Motor Vehicle Record report at the time of hiring and periodically thereafter, and maintenance of minimum acceptable insurance coverages may be required for this position

ยท Experience with educational programs and/or school systems

ยท National background check and verification of COVID vaccination

ยท Proficiency with software tools such as Microsoft Office


Preferred Qualifications:

ยท Bachelorโ€™s degree in communications, social work, criminal justice, or related field

ยท Experience with correctional/legal systems

ยท 2-4+ yearsโ€™ experience as community leader and/or organizer

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
