Description
Under limited supervision, this position provides instruction to Adult Education and Literacy students. This instructor will provide direct and explicit instruction for assigned classes, keep accurate and timely attendance records, and administer assessments. Classes may include high school equivalency level math, science, social studies, and language arts.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Two years teaching experience preferred, Secondary Education Certification preferred.
  • Ability to instruct students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people on phone, via email, and in person.
  • Ability to work with people is essential.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Candidate must exhibit an excellent work ethic, demonstrate a professional attitude, and possess excellent computer literacy skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to interpret and handle routine decisions as related to departmental operations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in detail with accuracy and efficiency.

Work Performed
  • Assist students with coursework in a variety of formats including lecture classes, online learning, and individual instruction.
  • Administer student basic skills assessments.
  • Plan and participate in student orientation.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely student records
  • Participate in staff development related to instruction, data entry, and assessment.
  • Assist in enrollment and reporting for online learning program.
  • Assist with completion of State of Iowa Adult Education program metrics in order to meet program goals.
  • Assist with program reporting for State of Iowa Adult Education.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues.
  • Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
