Job description

Position Summary: The Youth and Family Outreach Coordinator will work primarily with youth and families in the community and those who participate in activities/programs at The Salvation Army. This includes planning, implementing, and assessing Community Center programs, outreach events, After School program, Summer Day Camp program, and act as Kettle Coordinator during the holiday season.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate Community Center programs and outreach events in the community for youth, young adults, and seniors
  • Prepare, plan, and supervise the After School program, Summer Day Camp program, Vacation Bible School, Rally Day, and other required denominational activities
  • Function as Summer Day Camp Director
  • Collaborate with the Corps Officer to create a comprehensive schedule of developmental opportunities for youth
  • Assist in providing transportation, as needed, for program participants to and from TSA sponsored events
  • Assist the Corps Officers with the Salvation Army Christmas Campaign. This includes functioning as the Kettle Coordinator
  • Attend designated Church and community center meetings which include Sunday meetings, special events, and youth/senior social events on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that program spaces are cleaned and organized after each use
  • Coordinator will attend all community center meetings requested by Corps Officers and DHQ
  • Coordinate and supervise all community center rentals
  • Coordinate Safe from Harm (SFH) Initiative locally, maintaining records, leading trainings, and ensuring compliance of all SFH standards
  • The Coordinator should keep an accurate record of all programs and statistics for programs in gym and youth ministry: This report is turned into the Corps Officers the last Sunday of the month
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Degree in recreation, education or youth ministry preferred
  • Two (2) years college completion and Two (2) year experience working with youth and seniors
  • Experience working with children preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Willingness to attend and participate with the Salvation Army Church
  • Ability to work with diversity in the church and workplace
  • Must be able to drive a 12-passenger van

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Must have and maintain a current valid chauffeurs' license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR); or acquire it within 30 days
