Job description

POSITION: Communications Intern
REPORTS TO: Senior Communications Manager
LOCATION: Fort Worth, Texas
DEPARTMENT: Texas Motor Speedway Public Relations and Communications
DURATION: January-May
ABOUT THE INTERN:
The Communications Intern will play an integral role in the Texas Motor Speedway Public Relations and Communications department, bringing fresh ideas, creativity and energy to a fast-paced motorsports environment. The Intern will assist in developing public relations plans, coordinating PR events and driver appearances, writing press releases and engaging with local and national media, while also supporting race weekends and major events through hands-on media operations and stakeholder engagement.
This paid Internship requires a commitment of 20-25 hours per week on property, with extended hours during event weekends. Candidates must be available to work select event weekends. INTERN GOALS
  • Learn how the Public Relations/Communications Department assists in the execution of promotions for events
  • Experience how to pitch a variety of story ideas and events to traditional and non-traditional media outlets
  • Learn how to collaborate and execute effectively on content, events and other big ideas with TMS and SM teammates
  • Gain practical experience writing press releases, copy points and other communications
  • Help execute event weekend Media Center operations
  • Learn the day-to-day logistics of the department and property

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree
    • Preferred majors: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Sports Management
  • Applicants must have the following skills:

    • Results-driven and detail-oriented
    • Innovative thinker and self-starter
    • High integrity and confidentiality
  • Interns must be able to work on-site for an average of 20-25 hours per week
