Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Line Trainer to lead new hire training and employee retraining across ETE's production lines. The ideal candidate combines extensive, hands-on transmission remanufacturing experience with a genuine passion for coaching and developing others. Using the Observe, Demonstrate, Master (ODM) training progression, VKS work instructions, and established best practices, the Line Trainer ensures every employee - new hire or experienced - is trained to build correctly, safely, and to ETE's quality standards. This role also supports supervisors by helping maintain employee training matrices and keeping the training program aligned with the latest quality alerts and production processes.
About ETE REMAN
ETE REMAN is the largest independent aftermarket automatic transmission remanufacturer in the United States. Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, we've been rebuilding transmissions since 1985 - and we're still growing strong. With more than 850 team members, ETE REMAN is a place where people can build their career, learn new skills, and be part of a team that wins together.
Why Choose ETE REMAN?
The demand for our transmissions remains strong no matter the economy. Our work reduces waste, keeps vehicles on the road, and helps customers save money.
ETE REMAN is for people who take pride in their work and want to create something real. We're a team that values quality, honesty, and getting better every single day. You'll find opportunity here - if you're ready to learn, grow, and go all-in.
The pace is fast. The expectations are high. And the roadmap? You'll help draw it. We're growing quickly, built to last through any market, and still grounded in our family-owned roots. That means you get the best of both worlds - a tight-knit, no-nonsense culture with room to advance and make your mark.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver structured, hands-on training to new hire employees using the Observe, Demonstrate, Master (ODM) progression to build competence and confidence at each station.
  • Provide targeted retraining to current employees identified as having quality issues, comebacks, or repeated errors, partnering with Quality and Production leadership to close skill gaps.
  • Use VKS work instructions as the primary training and reference tool whenever available, and confirm trainees can navigate and follow VKS independently before sign-off.
  • Reinforce best practices, standard work, and build procedures at every station, and hold trainees accountable to ETE's quality standards.
  • Assist supervisors in completing and maintaining employee training matrices, tracking required, in-progress, and completed training for each operator.
  • Stay current on quality alerts, technical bulletins, and new or updated production processes, and ensure this information is delivered to and understood by trainees.
  • Review comebacks, quality escapes, and root cause findings with Quality and Production leadership, and translate corrective actions into targeted retraining plans.
  • Evaluate trainee progress through each stage of the Observe, Demonstrate, Master method and document sign-off before an employee is released to work independently.
  • Serve as a hands-on resource for transmission build knowledge, providing guidance and troubleshooting support to employees on the production floor.
  • Support new program launches and process changes by training operators on new builds, tooling, and updated work instructions.
  • Communicate training status, skill gaps, and retraining needs clearly to supervisors and production leadership.
  • Ensure ERP (SyteLine) and training documentation related to training activities is completed accurately and on time.
  • Model professionalism and ETE's core values at all times.

The above list reflects general details necessary to describe the principle and essential function of the position and shall not be construed as the only duties that may be assigned to this position.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Extensive hands-on experience building and/or remanufacturing automatic transmissions required.
  • Prior experience training, mentoring, or coaching other employees in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with the Observe, Demonstrate, Master (ODM) training method or a similar structured training technique.
  • Working knowledge of VKS or similar digital work instruction systems.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards, build procedures, and best practices across assigned transmission families.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ERP systems (SyteLine preferred).
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to employees at varying skill levels.
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple trainees and retraining priorities in a high-paced production environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • ASE Certification in Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles (A2) or similar.
  • Experience filling out or maintaining employee training matrices.
  • Experience supporting new program launches or process changes on the production floor.
  • Lean manufacturing or 5S knowledge.
  • Excellent patience, coaching ability, and interpersonal skills.
