About the Role

We're looking for a Feed Ingredient Sales Specialist to manage commodity sales and purchasing activities while building strong relationships with dairy producers and suppliers throughout the Northeast. This position combines feed commodity sales, vendor negotiations, market guidance, logistics coordination, and direct on-farm relationship development.

The ideal candidate has hands-on commodity trading experience, including vendor negotiations, along with knowledge of commodity logistics, risk management, and dairy production.


Job Responsibilities

  • Market feed commodities to dairy producers while working toward individual and team sales and margin goals
  • Develop relationships with existing customers and identify opportunities to generate additional commodity sales
  • Conduct on-farm visits to strengthen relationships and understand customer needs
  • Identify and develop new vendor and supplier opportunities
  • Negotiate commodity purchases directly with vendors
  • Maintain regular communication with vendors to develop relationships and stay current on market conditions
  • Provide customers and internal sales staff with guidance on commodity markets and market conditions
  • Coordinate with outside sales representatives and the commodities team to achieve sales objectives
  • Schedule and order commodity shipments based on customer orders and delivery requirements
  • Support the execution and fulfillment of feed commodity sales contracts
  • Monitor transportation and logistics requirements associated with commodity shipments
  • Use sound judgment, accuracy, and attention to detail when managing sales, purchasing, and commodity transactions
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business, Marketing, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of commodity trading experience, including direct vendor negotiation responsibilities
  • Experience with commodity transportation and logistics
  • Knowledge of risk management tools used within commodity markets
  • Knowledge of dairy production methods and practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Salesforce
  • Strong critical-thinking, analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with customers, vendors, internal teams, and leadership
  • Ability to handle challenging situations professionally and exercise sound judgment
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to travel 25%-50%
