This is a contract opportunity for an experienced Commissioning Technician who thrives in the field, ensuring systems are installed, tested, and brought online safely and reliably. About the Role: You will be responsible for commissioning equipment and associated electrical systems from installation verification through functional testing and final handover. Working closely with project engineers and site management, you will ensure all systems meet design specifications, safety standards, and performance criteria. Your work will be central to achieving safe start-up, reliable operation, and timely completion of commissioning milestones.

Key Responsibilities: Perform on-site installation inspections and wiring verification for BESS and associated electrical equipment to ensure alignment with schematics and design documents. Execute commissioning test procedures, including functional, performance, and safety tests on equipment and control systems. Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures rigorously during all commissioning and maintenance activities to ensure personnel and equipment safety.

Calibrate instruments, sensors, and protection devices, documenting settings and results in accordance with project requirements. Troubleshoot electrical and control issues identified during testing, working with engineering teams to resolve non-conformances. Review and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control drawings to guide installation checks and test activities.

Complete detailed commissioning reports, test records, and punch lists, providing clear documentation for project closeout. Coordinate with site supervisors and contractors to sequence commissioning activities and support safe, efficient project execution. Key Requirements: Proven experience as a Commissioning Technician or similar field-based electrical role on industrial or energy projects.

Strong practical knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices in an energized environment. Hands-on experience with installation verification, wiring checks, and functional testing of electrical and control systems. Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical drawings.

Familiarity with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or comparable power systems and associated equipment. Solid understanding of OSHA safety standards and their application on construction and industrial sites. Competence in using test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, calibration tools) for verification and commissioning tasks.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, complete commissioning documentation. Desirable Skills: Experience commissioning utility-scale or commercial BESS projects. Background working with PLCs, SCADA systems, or other control platforms in an industrial environment.

Knowledge of NFPA 70E and relevant electrical codes and standards. Prior involvement in start-up and performance testing for renewable or grid-scale energy projects. Experience working on multi-disciplinary project teams with contractors, owners, and OEMs.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Technical trade school certificate or associate degree in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Relevant electrical or instrumentation certifications (e.g., journeyman electrician, instrumentation technician) considered an advantage.
