Commission Writing information

What is commission writing?

Commission writing is the process of creating written content based on specific requests or requirements from a client. This can include a wide range of content types such as articles, stories, reports, or marketing materials. Commissioned writers work closely with clients to understand their needs and produce tailored content, often adhering to set deadlines and guidelines. The work may be one-time or ongoing, depending on the arrangement. Many freelance writers and agencies offer commission writing services for businesses, organizations, and individuals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission writer?

To thrive as a Commission Writer, you need excellent writing and research skills, a strong grasp of grammar, and often a relevant degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems, word processing software, and sometimes SEO tools or style guides is typically required. Strong client communication, adaptability, and time management are critical soft skills for meeting diverse client needs and tight deadlines. These abilities ensure the delivery of high-quality, tailored content that meets client specifications and maintains professional standards.

What are some common challenges commission writers face when managing multiple clients and deadlines?

Commission writers often juggle assignments from various clients, each with their own unique requirements and deadlines. Balancing these projects requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Clear communication with clients is crucial to prevent misunderstandings regarding project scope and delivery timelines. Additionally, commission writers must be adaptable, as client expectations and feedback can change quickly, requiring flexibility in both writing style and workflow.

  • Dental insurance
Turn car trouble into customer trust - and get paid like a closer
You're the first face customers see and the person they trust to tell them what their car actually needs. If you can explain a brake job in plain English, keep a busy counter moving, and close the sale without being pushy - this is your shop.
We're Halco Group, a family-owned, multi-unit Midas operation growing fast across Metro Detroit. Our Southfield store is high-volume, which means more cars, more customers, and more commission.
How you get to $98K
Your pay is competitive base + uncapped commission on the work you write and sell - maintenance, repairs, and tires. Our busiest writers at high-volume stores consistently earn in the top half of the range. You control the number.
What you'll do
  • Own the front counter: greet customers, write repair orders, and guide them from estimate to invoice
  • Recommend and sell maintenance, repair, and tire work - clearly, honestly, confidently
  • Translate technician findings into recommendations customers understand and approve
  • Coordinate with techs to keep the shop schedule moving and promises kept
  • Keep the front desk sharp, organized, and professional
What you bring
  • Experience in automotive service writing, parts counter, or a customer-facing sales role (strongly preferred - but we'll train the right closer)
  • Basic automotive knowledge and real interest in the industry
  • Strong communicator who can juggle phones, walk-ins, and a full schedule board
  • Comfortable with point-of-sale systems and digital inspection tools
  • Valid driver's license
The schedule, upfront
This is a 5-day, 45-50 hour week including Saturdays. It's a busy store - that's why the earning potential is what it is. If that works for you, we'd love to talk.
What you get
  • $70,000-$98,800/year (base + uncapped commission)
  • Group health insurance (BCBS) + dental + vision
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off + 8 paid holidays
  • Employee discounts and team outings
  • Clean, modern, high-volume store

Where this goes
We promote from within. Our store managers earn $88,000-$161,000/year, and several started right where you would - at the counter. Join one of the fastest-growing Midas groups in Michigan and we'll build your career path with you.
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
