Job description

WOODWORK TEACHER

We are pleased to announce an opening for a Woodwork Teacher for the 2026–27 school year and beyond. We are seeking a creative and resourceful individual who can support our students in developing independence through a variety of woodworking activities.

This position involves teaching at both the elementary and secondary levels, using woodworking to foster the development of fine and gross motor skills working under supervision of a special education teacher. The Woodwork Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers while also serving as an independent pre-vocational instructor.

The mission of The Camphill School is to create wholeness for children and youth with developmental disabilities through education, extended family living, and therapy so that they may be better understood, they may more fully unfold their potential, and they may meaningfully participate in life.

The Camphill School is a Waldorf school accredited by AWSNA and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools. Our school is also licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is a Pennsylvania Approved Private School for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Duties include:

  • Work with individual students in woodwork as therapy
  • Work with classes in woodwork activities
  • Maintain records including progress monitoring
  • Is responsible for a pre-vocational afternoon group in the High School Program
  • Attend teachers' faculty meetings and additionally scheduled meetings
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, class assistants, paraprofessionals and other instructional staff in a friendly, professional manner
  • Participate in care for the school buildings as determined by teaching faculty
  • Develop tasks appropriate to the needs of the individual and group
  • Be responsible for the operation, care, and maintenance of machinery.

Qualifications

  • Skill in various domains of woodwork
  • Training or experience in Waldorf pedagogy or Curative education preferred or willingness to engage in training.
