Atlas Roofing is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer to support the AMP Engineering Department.
Controls & Automation Engineer Primary Responsibilities
  • The main objective of the role is to provide hands-on technical leadership to multiple plant locations in the area of process controls and automation. This role will lead automation and process improvement projects.
  • Supports preparation, installation, and maintenance of current and future automation projects. This includes understanding and abiding all safety practices, working with operations to provide input with quote preparation, and helping to prepare capital project requests.
  • The controls engineer will be the subject matter expert in PLCs, AC/DC drives, servo motors and other electrical and electronic devices, systems and networks
  • Design system structures, automation units and automated robotic cell layouts to continuously improve OEE.
  • The controls engineer must have experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing control loops, control strategies and will design, troubleshoot and optimize existing controls and processes and oversee the implementation of new equipment and process controls and automation.
  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in optimization of processes and products involving modifications to facilities, equipment, methods and materials. Ability to interpret mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements.
  • Works with plant engineers, corporate engineering and IT to develop and maintain consistent plant floor information systems to provide data access to the division.
  • Commissions new production equipment and controls and processes, monitors modifications and upgrades, and assists in troubleshooting existing processes.
  • Where appropriate, select and supervise external contractors and consultants to ensure they meet the requirements for function, cost, timing, and quality.
  • Makes observations and takes measurements directly, as well as collects and interprets data from other technical and operating staff involved in order to develop and implement process improvement.
  • Provides input into the maintenance management system for all controls and electrical and electronic systems and equipment
  • Expected travel requirement is minimum of 50%, potentially higher during project implementations.

Controls & Automation Engineer Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on work experience in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record of measurable results
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with automation, controls, and/or robotics.

Controls & Automation Engineer Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced analytical skills, and creativity in solving problems/trouble shooting
  • Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple short and long-term projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation), with the ability to effectively work with others in a team environment
  • Basic detail and conceptual design skills
  • Experience with project management and implementation from the initial planning stages to completion
  • In-depth knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (Siemens/Rockwell) required
  • Competent with Mini-tab, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with Ignition or other SCADA platforms
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to handle complex assignments and be proactive
  • Experience in building materials or plastics manufacturing is a plus

Controls & Automation Engineer Education, Licenses & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar related discipline.
