position summaryMerjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking an Environmental Inspector for a 34-mile electric transmission line project in western Wisconsin. The position will be field based in Trempealeau or Buffalo counties for the duration of the project's construction phase, which is anticipated to begin in late November 2026 and last through at least 2027 with possible extension into 2028. Day-to-day responsibilities will focus on documenting compliance inspections, including stormwater inspections, to verify compliance with requirements in state and federal permit authorizations, as well as the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) Written Order conditions issued by the Public Services Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW).The work environment will consist of remote field settings, which may include work in adverse weather conditions, and in some instances, irregular and/or steep terrain. Workload is expected to be 60 hours per week from Monday through Saturday. Overtime will be paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 in a work week.Compensation for this position starts at $45.00/hour but may be higher based on qualifications and experience. Per diem and mileage reimbursements will follow the General Services Administration (GSA) rates for lodging and meals and incidental expenses (M&IE), and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) standard rates, respectively. Benefits will be provided, including medical insurance, and a 401(K) match.Our field staff are at the forefront of delivering successful projects. We are proud of our reputation for delivering quality work and building long-term, trusting relationships with our clients and with regulatory agencies.responsibilities• Oversee and report on active construction projects to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.• Coordinate with project teams and construction site managers to prevent and resolve compliance issues.• Conduct stormwater inspections to ensure erosion devices and best management practices are being implemented to ensure project compliance.• Understand and implement health and safety plans.• Compile and submit daily inspection records within Fulcrum mobile data collection applications.• Coordinate with the Compliance Manager on construction schedule to support mobilization of biological resource monitors when required by project commitments.qualifications and experience• Bachelor's or associate degree in natural sciences or a closely related field, or field experience in lieu of degree.• Experience with Wisconsin DNR stormwater regulations and technical standards preferred.• Ability to understand alignment and facility engineered drawings.• General knowledge and experience with agricultural mitigation measures and construction processes.• Ability to conduct field work for 10+ hours per day, sometimes in adverse conditions. Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.• Experience using Microsoft Office software products including Microsoft Word and Excel.• Familiarity with Fulcrum and ArcGIS Field Maps mobile data collection platforms preferred.• Ability to manage time and complete multiple tasks and prepare inspection reports on a scheduled routine.• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and "own" the process.• Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills.• Detail oriented with excellent critical thinking skills.• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen. E-VerifyMerjent, Inc. participates with the United States Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) E-Verify program.
