What is a commission sales associate?

Commission Sales Associates are sales professionals who earn all or a portion of their income based on the sales they make, rather than a fixed hourly wage or salary. They typically work in retail, automotive, real estate, or other industries where sales performance directly affects compensation. Their main duties include assisting customers, recommending products or services, closing sales, and meeting sales targets. The commission-based pay structure incentivizes associates to maximize their sales skills and customer service. Success in this role often requires excellent communication, persuasion, and product knowledge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission sales associate?

To thrive as a Commission Sales Associate, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CRM software, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and sales tracking tools is commonly required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, resilience, and persuasive communication help top performers build relationships and close deals. These abilities are crucial for consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets and ensuring customer satisfaction in a competitive environment.

How does a commission sales associate typically collaborate with other team members to achieve sales targets?

Commission Sales Associates often work closely with fellow sales staff, managers, and support teams to meet and exceed sales goals. While the role is individually incentivized, regular collaboration involves sharing leads, participating in team meetings, and assisting with customer service issues to ensure a seamless client experience. Associates may also coordinate with marketing teams to understand promotions or product launches that can drive sales. This collaborative environment helps foster healthy competition and collective success within the team.

We are looking for partners who can:

Introduce DECKO to retail chains, independent retailers and distributors

Develop relationships with wholesalers, dealers and commercial buyers

Identify regional and national B2B opportunities

Use their existing industry network to open qualified accounts

Help DECKO understand and develop new US market opportunities

Support negotiations and account development through to commercial launch

Ideally, you already have:

An established network of retail or distribution buyers

Experience selling building materials, flooring, decking, landscaping, hardware, home improvement or related products

A proven history of opening B2B accounts

Strong knowledge of the US retail or wholesale market

An entrepreneurial, results-driven approach

The ability to work independently

Existing relationships with regional retailers, buying groups, distributors, contractors, developers or national retail organisations are highly valued.

DECKO provides the product range, established brand, marketing assets, samples, technical support, US fulfilment infrastructure and commercial support required to develop accounts.

The role is designed around performance and results, with attractive commission/revenue opportunities for successful representatives.

About DECKO

Founded in 2013, DECKO develops premium DIY home improvement solutions designed around quality, innovation, easy installation and strong consumer value.

If you already have the relationships and market knowledge to introduce innovative home improvement products to US retailers, distributors or major B2B buyers, we would like to hear from you.
