Job description

The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines the operations of Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations.

DPSS has established the position of Accreditation Program Manager to lead the division's efforts at attaining accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).

Reporting to the Director of Policy and Professional Standards, this position will also play a key role in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of division policies. This position will also support division operations by establishing and managing a program for developing forms to document division operations, and will support division leadership by conducting research, qualitative program reviews, and analyses of high-risk aspects of division operations.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the accreditation process, ensuring DPSS policies, practices, and processes adhere to accreditation standards. Gather, review, and approve proofs of compliance, ensuring documentation complies with accrediting body requirements.
  • Direct and supervise the accreditation activities of department accreditation coordinators.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the DPSS forms program. Develop DPSS forms for use by employees and the public, ensuring forms meet legal requirements and operational needs.
  • Participate in the development, review, and revision of DPSS policies and procedures, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with best practices and adherence to accreditation standards.
  • Conduct research, analyze data, conduct reviews, and prepare reports on high-risk activities and programs to inform leadership decisions.
  • Develop and deliver accreditation-related training and briefings for DPSS staff and senior leadership.
  • Liaison with accrediting bodies, peer institutions, and stakeholders. Represent the DPSS in accreditation-related coalitions, associations, workgroups, and conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • Four years of relevant experience in accreditation or standards compliance within a law enforcement, higher education, or corporate organization. Experience with accreditation through CALEA or IACLEA is preferred.
  • Experience designing and developing standardized forms or supervising a forms program.
  • Experience developing and authoring employer policies, aligning them with industry best practices.
  • Experience analyzing data and preparing analytical reports.
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management skills, with the ability to develop and execute comprehensive plans of action.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, including prior experience communicating with diverse audiences at a leadership level.
  • Commitment to precision, integrity, and high-quality results.
  • Ability to pass an in-depth comprehensive public safety background investigation and drug screening.
