Occupational Summary

The pharmacy manager serves as a key member of the pharmacy leadership team. This person will coordinate and collaborate with all levels of representatives across multiple departments to drive organizational and departmental goals related to operations, cost savings, process improvement, standardization and compliance.

  • Leads the pharmacy operations program including automation, procurement and prepackaging
  • Provides basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer programs
  • Participates in the maintenance of pharmacy dictionaries including adding new drugs to the electronic health record (EPIC®) and Omnicell?
  • Collaborates with Duke University Health System (DUHS) Controlled Substances Diversion Prevention team to provide direct oversight on local compliance and drug diversion efforts
  • Completes essential human resource functions associated with staff supervision and team leadership
  • Serves as a liaison between medical, nursing and allied health staff and the department of pharmacy for operational issues
  • Works with the Director of Pharmacy and pharmacy leadership team to establish goals and objectives for operational programs and is responsible for implementation and monitoring within budgetary targets
  • Supports the educational mission through training of pharmacy residents, students and pharmacy technician trainees and continuous professional growth.

  • Supervise and coordinate pharmaceutical care responsibilities. Plan and schedule work for the practice area. Manage staff development activities. Participate in the recruiting and selection of staff. Ensure compliance with all regulatory practice standards. Maintain interface with medical and nursing staff to provide regular information. Evaluate staff compliance with department policy. Suggest performance improvement plans and assist with implementation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form.
  • Extensive knowledge of drug products, medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and disease states.
  • Ability to work with information systems, automated and technical equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with various members of the health care teams.
  • Knowledge of practice standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree OR BS Pharmacy Degree
Experience
  • Three years of pharmacy practice experience; Managerial/supervisor experience preferred
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
  • Licensed Pharmacist or eligible to practice pharmacy in North Carolina
