Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant | West Bloomfield | Critical Care | Contingent | Nights

Location: Henry Ford West Bloomfield

Status: Contingent | Midnights

Schedule: Minimum of 2 shifts per month

Setting: 100% Inpatient | 100% Adult

Weekends: 1 weekend per month

Position Overview:

Henry Ford Health System is seeking a contingent Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Critical Care team in West Bloomfield, MI. This highly autonomous role provides inpatient critical care coverage across the Medical, Surgical, and Neuro Intensive Care Units in collaboration with, but not necessarily in the presence of, a board-certified intensivist. Providers will deliver emergent and inpatient critical care by obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, making diagnoses, and developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans. Working closely with staff physicians, house officers, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams, the APP will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient outcomes in a fast-paced critical care environment. This position is ideal for candidates with strong medical or surgical backgrounds, exceptional critical thinking skills, and the ability to function effectively within a collaborative team setting while maintaining a high degree of independent clinical decision-making. The role offers significant procedural opportunities, including intubation, central venous catheter placement, arterial line placement, temporary hemodialysis catheter placement, thoracentesis, and paracentesis. Procedural experience is preferred but not required, as all Department of Medicine procedures are individually credentialed based on training and experience. This position features no call responsibilities, 1 weekend per month, and offering the opportunity to practice at the top of scope while delivering exceptional patient-centered critical care.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of ICU Inpatient experience
  • NP or PA graduate from an accredited program
  • Current (or in-process) Michigan licensure
  • National certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA)
  • BLS required; ACLS required (or obtained after hire)

Credentials:

Education & Training

  • Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP): Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)

Licensure

  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan, or in the process of applying (proof of application required).

Certification

  • PA: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • NP: National certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan

(e.g., ANCC, AANP)

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - required (may be obtained after hire)

DEA / Controlled Substance Licensure

  • PA: DEA and Michigan Controlled Substance License (CSL) required through credentialing
  • NP: DEA registration required through credentialing; NPs do not hold a Michigan CSL and will use their Michigan license number during the application process
