Job description


***$20,000.00 Sign-on Bonus (Paid over 2 Years)***
Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, oversees operations and workflow within the department. Develop procedural protocols. Supervisors possess strong analytical skills and an understanding of scientific principles to perform various tests in the analysis of blood, body fluids and tissues as ordered by Healthcare personnel. Acts as a clinical resource to the general staff by providing leadership, direction and guidance. Precisely and accurately, orders, performs and evaluates technical procedures in the different subsections of the clinical laboratory department. Receives, processes, and distributes specimens appropriately and in a timely manner. Properly stores specimens for further testing, as needed. Ensures training of new employees and students. Ensure competency of team on off shifts and re-educates as needed. Maintains equipment and supply inventory. Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e. attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures. Maintains knowledge and practices current regulatory guidelines. Prepares and participates in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP and AABB. Follows best practice for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the needs of the staff with regards to work flow and technical operations.
  • Ensures proper preparing, storing, dispensing and periodic evaluation of all reagents to assure accuracy and precision of test results.
  • Performs laboratory analysis and interpret results.
  • Recognizes instrument malfunction, quality control problems, and abnormal or variant patient results.
  • Develop and maintain technical policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Required:
    • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as:
      • Military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489
      • Qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on an HHS examination before 2/28/92 42 CFR 493.1491.
      • Meets CLIA requirements for General Supervisor.
    • Experience: 5+ years of job-related experience required
    • Licensure/Certification: Registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or equivalent)

  • Preferred:
    • Education: Bachelor's degree from an approved college or university
    • Experience: Prior Supervisory experience preferred
