What is a Commission Independent Contractor?

A Commission Independent Contractor is a self-employed individual who earns income based on commissions from sales or services, rather than receiving a fixed salary or hourly wage. These contractors typically work for businesses or clients on a contract basis and are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and benefits. They have the flexibility to set their own schedules and often work in fields such as real estate, sales, or consulting. Unlike employees, commission independent contractors are not entitled to employee benefits and must comply with tax regulations for self-employment income.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Commission-based roles such as real estate agents, sales representatives, and independent contractors in fields like insurance or consulting can potentially earn $4,000 or more weekly without a degree, depending on experience, skill, and sales volume. Success in these roles often depends on strong communication skills, self-motivation, and building a client base or network.

How do Commission Independent Contractors typically manage their workflow and client relationships without direct supervision?

Commission Independent Contractors often enjoy a high degree of autonomy, which means they must be proactive in managing their schedule, setting appointments, and following up with clients. Since they are not directly supervised, successful contractors establish systems to track leads, sales progress, and deadlines. Building strong client relationships is essential, requiring frequent communication, responsiveness, and self-motivation. Collaborating with other contractors or company representatives is common, especially for sharing market insights or coordinating on large projects, but the primary responsibility for success rests with the contractor.

What is a 1099 commission-based job?

A 1099 commission-based job is a role where the worker is classified as an independent contractor and paid based on sales or performance, typically receiving a Form 1099 for tax purposes. These jobs often involve earning commissions rather than a fixed salary and may require self-employment skills and managing own taxes.

Can an independent contractor be paid commission?

Yes, a commission-based payment structure is common for independent contractors, especially in sales roles. Contractors typically negotiate their compensation, which can include commissions, bonuses, or flat fees, depending on the agreement and industry standards.

What is the difference between Commission Independent Contractor vs Sales Associate?

AspectCommission Independent ContractorSales Associate

A Sales Associate typically works as an employee within a retail or service environment, earning a combination of salary and commissions. Understanding these differences helps job seekers identify the right role based on work environment, credentials, and compensation structure.

What jobs can you earn commission?

Commission-based jobs are common in sales roles such as real estate agents, insurance agents, car salespeople, and retail sales associates. These positions typically involve earning a percentage of sales or deals closed, often requiring strong communication and negotiation skills. Some freelance roles, like affiliate marketing or commissioned consulting, also offer earnings based on performance or sales generated.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Commission Independent Contractor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Commission Independent Contractor, you need strong sales abilities, self-motivation, and a deep understanding of your industry or product, usually supported by prior sales experience or relevant training. Familiarity with CRM software, digital marketing tools, and invoicing systems is typically required for managing leads and tracking commissions. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and time management skills help individuals stand out in this competitive, results-driven role. These skills and qualities are crucial for maximizing earnings, maintaining client relationships, and operating successfully with minimal supervision.

Job description

Come work for the biggest and best solar company in the nation!

While other solar companies are contracting or shutting down, Powur keeps growing!

  • 4 consecutive Inc. 5000 appearances
  • 35,000+ installs | $1.5B in revenue | $10M+ cash reserves
  • Debt-free, profitable, and expanding
Remote Solar Sales Professional

Established Major Company Earn $150k+ Year 1 Keep up to 80% of Deal Revenue

This role is for experienced high-ticket sales professionals in California only.

Powur is looking for experienced solar sales professionals (or related high-ticket, commission-only sales experience) who know how to sell in California. This is a 100% commission, independent contractor role - not a salaried position. If you're a proven closer who wants to keep more of what you earn, this is built for you.

The Role

This is a 100% commission independent contractor position. There is no base salary, no draws, and no guarantees - your income is entirely tied to your performance. You will need to generate your own leads. In exchange, you keep a substantially higher share of revenue than you would at a traditional solar company, with no income ceiling.

  • Sell residential solar - you set your own schedule and run your own pipeline
  • Use Powur's AI-powered platform for proposals, site surveys, permitting, and project tracking
  • Close deals virtually or in person - 100% remote-capable
  • Build a team and unlock 6-level revenue-share overrides if you choose to scale
Compensation

All compensation is commission-based. There is no base pay.

  • Keep 70-80% of revenue on every deal
  • High performing active reps can earn over $150,000.00 in their first 12 months
  • Top performers earn $750K+ plus six-figure equity grants
  • M1 milestone bonuses up to $2,500 per install milestone
  • Equity stock options starting with your first install
  • Vested equity that continues to grow over time
Who We're Looking For

You must have direct solar sales experience to be considered for this role.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a proven track record of closing solar deals in a Powur active state - this is a hard requirement
  • Knows their market: regulations, utility territories, and local incentives in the states where they sell
  • Is comfortable working as a 1099 independent contractor with no guaranteed income
  • Wants to maximize take-home pay and is tired of sharing too much with their employer
  • Can hit the ground running - we offer training and support, but we're not building your market knowledge for you

New to solar entirely? This is not the right opportunity. We are not looking to train people on solar fundamentals for this position.

Tools & Support
  • Powur University - live and on-demand training, weekly masterminds, certifications in storage, roofing, and finance
  • AI platform that handles site surveys, permitting, project tracking, and virtual outreach
  • Structured onboarding + optional mentorship
  • A network of high-performing reps across our active markets and a culture built around results
A Mission Worth Selling

Powur is a Public Benefit Corporation. Every deal you close contributes to funding solar installations for families living without electricity around the world. Your commission isn't just income - it's impact.

The Bottom Line

The solar industry is consolidating around platform models. Traditional solar companies are losing ground. Powur is the platform that wins in that environment - and we're looking for proven solar sales pros in our active markets who want to own that opportunity, not just punch a clock for it.
