Job description

BASIC DUTIES: Serves as translator and reviewer of all documents translated on request of eligible Embassy sections and U.S. Government entities. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO): * Translate (on a routine or urgent basis) from English to Russian and vice versa documents requested for the Ambassador, DCM, and all other eligible Embassy sections or US government entities.

Documents eligible for translation include but are not limited to Ambassadorial blog/twitter materials, all other Ambassadorial and DCM support materials (e.g. speeches, correspondence, media articles), diplomatic notes, presidential commission reports and newsletters, contracts, treaties, laws, regulations, specifications for projects, medical reports, as well as media articles covering political, economic, military, scientific, social, cultural, and crime-related issues. * On an ongoing basis, conduct the necessary research in relevant fields to keep abreast of basic political, economic, social, military, scientific, cultural, and ecological developments in Russia and the United States.

* Check received documents for any lack of clarity in them (or in completed translations) and discuss with designated Points of Contact (POC) solutions for rendering difficult passages into the target language in a way that avoids ambiguity. * Make use of professional translation reference materials, including translation technical toolkits, electronic dictionaries, thesauruses, and special translation data bases. Comply with conventions of individual Embassy sections and users in terms of preferred vocabulary usage and formatting practice.

* Review personal translation work products and those of others in the section. Ensure that all work products into Russian and English are complete and grammatically and syntactically errorfree. * Be prepared and able to serve as duty translator as necessary and as assigned.

* Performs other administrative and clerical duties as required. * QUALIFICATIONS : * University degree in linguistics or related field. * At least five years of experience in translating required.

* Level IV (fluent) English and Level V (native, educated) Russian are required. * Extensive knowledge of professional translation work for English and Russian. * Good sense of Russian and English style is required.

* Good knowledge of translation technical toolkits, including electronic dictionaries, thesauruses, and other translation databases. * Good working knowledge of how to use the Internet. * Basic knowledge of Russian and American political, economic, military, scientific, cultural, and social developments.

* Must be able to translate both routine and non-routine documents of a moderately complex nature from English into Russian and vice versa. * Must be able to deal diplomatically and effectively with all levels of contacts, both external and internal. * Must be a U.S.
