Job Summary

Registered Nurse First Assistant - RNFA

Full-time, Contract - 13 week contract with option to extend.

Rotating Shift; 5 x 8s. 6am to 14:30 or 8:30 to 1700 or 1000 to 1830; M - F. Call required.

ACLS, BLS, PALS, and insurance documentation; minimum of 2 years experience as RNFA; must have experience in primary spine, ortho, and robot surgeries. Call is at least twice per week and every 3rd weekend.

Responsibilities

  • Provide RNFA support during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and workflow efficiency.

  • Assist surgeons with instruments, tissue handling, and suturing as requested.

  • Maintain sterile technique and OR readiness, including room setup and turnover.

  • Monitor patient status intraoperatively and communicate updates to the surgical team.

  • Collaborate with perioperative team to optimize patient outcomes and minimize delays.

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA, hospital policies).

  • Document surgical events, counts, specimens, and postoperative notes accurately.

  • Participate in preoperative assessments and case planning to anticipate needs.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to performance metrics.

  • Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and post-op care.

  • Support data-driven decision making by documenting outcomes and pipeline indicators.


Experience/Qualifications

  • Current RN license with valid state registration and malpractice coverage.

  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) preferred or eligible to obtain certification.

  • Experience as RNFA or scrub nurse in surgical environments with instrument handling skills.

  • Proficiency in sterile technique, OR setup, and room turnover efficiency.

  • Strong intraoperative monitoring skills and ability to communicate updates clearly.

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA) and hospital policies.

  • Accurate documentation of surgical events, counts, specimens, and postoperative notes.

  • Preoperative assessment participation and case planning to anticipate needs.

  • Process improvement mindset with trackable performance metrics and pipeline usage.

  • Patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery, and post-op care.
