Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 3 Trauma Center in Colorado, requiring ACLS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications with night shift and every-other-weekend availability.

  • Acute care hospital Emergency Department (ED/ER) setting
  • Level 3 Trauma Center with The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Orthopedic Trauma and Emergency Stroke Ready designation
  • Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, DM, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and HTN
  • Patient volume averages approximately 150 patients per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4โ€“5 based on acuity
  • ER holds are mixed within the ED; no separate psych/seclusion rooms
  • Charting system is Epic
  • RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry independently โ€” no monitor techs on unit
  • RNs will be trained to perform Point-of-Care lab testing
  • RT is available 24/7 for breathing treatments and ABGs
  • Techs support unit secretary work, assist nurses on the floor, and help with triage
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Floating is required throughout the assigned zone's ERs within a 60-mile radius
  • No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
  • Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license โ€” must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications (all AHA, all must be active โ€” no pending certifications accepted): ACLS, BLS, ENPC or PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
  • BSN is not required
  • Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside at least 60 miles from the facility (driver's license used to confirm permanent address)
Additional Information
  • Unit orientation is 2โ€“3 days; clinicians must be on-site in Colorado for the week of orientation even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • Charge nurses carry an assignment on this unit
  • Scrub color is navy blue
  • Floating is required throughout the full 60-mile zone โ€” travelers are responsible for securing housing that makes this feasible regardless of where they choose to stay
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility in the CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health system within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
