Job description

Samford Group Civil is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our civil engineering team in Auburn, Alabama. This is a client-facing role with full ownership of project delivery, team leadership, and business development. The ideal candidate is a licensed PE with deep experience in residential and commercial land development — ready to step into a leadership position and grow with a high-performing, values-driven team.

At Samford Group Civil, you won't just manage projects — you'll help shape the future of communities across Alabama and Georgia. You'll work directly with developers, municipalities, and stakeholders to bring visionary land development projects to life.

  • Manage 10+ active civil engineering projects simultaneously from concept through construction documents.
  • Serve as the primary client contact for all assigned projects, maintaining excellent communication with stakeholders, municipalities, and developers.
  • Seal and stamp civil engineering plans and deliverables as a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Set project schedules, track milestones, and ensure all deadlines and client commitments are met.
  • Manage billing and invoicing for all assigned projects to support company financial health.
  • Represent clients at planning commission, city council, and other public meetings.
  • Conduct quality control review on all project deliverables prior to submission.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three engineers, with growth expected as the firm scales.
  • Cultivate client relationships and actively contribute to business development efforts.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project records including emails, field notes, file systems, status reports, and time logs.
  • Uphold the firm's five core values — Humble, Balance, Committed, Joyful Problem Solver, and Excellence — in all client and team interactions.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Alabama; Georgia licensure preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum 5 years of civil engineering project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in residential subdivision and commercial land development projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong client communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a small, high-accountability team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active PE licensure in both Alabama and Georgia.
  • Experience representing clients at governmental or planning commission meetings.
  • Background in site design, grading, stormwater management, utilities, permitting, and/or entitlements.
  • Prior experience mentoring or leading junior engineering staff.
  • Track record of contributing to or leading business development initiatives.
  • Base salary approximately $100,000, commensurate with experience.
  • $20,000–$25,000 in quarterly performance bonuses — total target compensation $120,000+.
  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO).
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Minimal travel required — site visits approximately once per month.
