What You’ll Do

As an Acute Care Unit Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you’ll report to the Patient Care Service Manager and apply the nursing process utilizing Relationship Based Care framework. You will establish strong patient family relationships and collaborate with other professional, clinical and ancillary staff in providing quality care to patients. You will display strong teamwork and exhibit self-care and self-knowing in order to be empathetic and compassionate with every interaction.

Acute Care Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective patient care under RN supervision, including administering medications, monitoring IVs and transfusions, performing phlebotomy, and documenting treatments and responses.
  • Implement and support nursing care plans, promote patient and family engagement, and use critical thinking and teach-back methods to enhance understanding.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, uphold privacy standards, and reinforce discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams through clear communication, shift briefs, and bedside reports to ensure coordinated care and smooth transitions.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and supervise care delivery based on team members’ qualifications.
  • Support immunocompromised patients in infusion settings alongside Chemo/Bio certified RNs.
  • Participate in utilization review, goal evaluation, and quality improvement efforts; respond to patient feedback and conduct purposeful rounding.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education, committee involvement, and process improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate accountability, punctuality, and adaptability; contribute to team development and assist with orientation of new staff.
  • Complete other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

What You Bring

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you’ll bring a high level of knowledge and competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment, and techniques and your advanced analytical skills are necessary to solve complex problems and make decisions related to patient care. You demonstrate the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and others. You demonstrate the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. You have an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program and LPN license in the state of Michigan
  • Minimum 1-2 years nursing experience preferred
