About this Job 2/94714/BI1-4/7.10.26-SU DISTRICT 02-BRIDGE INSPECTION -UNIT 051 At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. Bridge Inspectors perform critical public safety work by conducting inspections of on-system and off-system bridges in accordance with established standards and DOTD procedures. No prior bridge inspection experience is required - training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Bridge Inspector job series. This is a hands-on field role that requires attention to detail, safety awareness, and strong documentation skills.

Work is performed in a variety of environments and may involve heights, water, traffic exposure, weather conditions, and travel to bridge locations within the assigned district. Positions are located in Jefferson Parish, District02/Unit 051 and report to Bridge Engineer Supervisor / Engineer 6. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Depending on level and assignment, Bridge Inspectors may: Inspect bridge components (superstructure, substructure, approaches, waterways, safety features, etc.) Take measurements and perform field tests as needed Document conditions using notes, sketches, photographs, and narratives Complete inspection reports and maintain bridge files/records in required systems Coordinate with local agencies and bridge owners for off-system inspections Support inspections involving special access equipment (bucket trucks, man lifts, ladders, etc.) Assist with accident damage documentation and reporting Participate in structured training and required continuing education Support emergency/disaster response activities when needed Position-Specific Details: Compensation: Bridge Inspector 1 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $3.00 premium pay for every hour worked. Bridge Inspector 2 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $3.00 premium pay for every hour worked. Bridge Inspector 3 - Starting salary is $19.63/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked

Bridge Inspector 4 - Starting salary is $24.04/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked. Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy. Career Progression: Vacancies may be filled as Bridge Inspector 1, 2, 3, or 4 based on qualifications and agency needs
