What is a commission-based job?

Commission-based jobs are positions where employees earn all or part of their income based on the sales or deals they close, rather than receiving a fixed salary. In these roles, compensation is typically tied directly to performance, meaning the more you sell or achieve, the more you earn. This structure is common in industries such as real estate, insurance, and sales. Commission-based jobs can offer high earning potential for motivated individuals, but income can be less predictable compared to salaried positions.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive in a commission-based sales role?

Success in a commission-based sales role requires strong sales acumen, negotiation abilities, and a deep understanding of the products or services offered, often supported by a high school diploma or bachelor’s degree. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, point-of-sale systems, and online communication tools is valuable. Exceptional interpersonal skills, resilience, and self-motivation help individuals excel in meeting targets and building lasting client relationships. These competencies are crucial as they directly impact earning potential, customer satisfaction, and long-term business growth in a performance-driven environment.

What are common challenges faced by commission-based professionals, and how can they be managed effectively?

Commission-based roles often come with income variability, as earnings depend directly on performance and sales results. This can be challenging during slower periods or when building a new client base. To manage these challenges, many professionals focus on cultivating strong client relationships, maintaining a robust sales pipeline, and setting realistic financial goals. Additionally, successful commission-based workers often collaborate closely with their teams to share leads and best practices, which can help drive results and stabilize income over time.

Re-posted 20 days ago

Job description

Do you know business owners or decision makers who need help managing rising and uncertain electricity and natural gas costs, or are seeking ways to achieve sustainability or resiliency objectives? This is a simple way to help them while earning additional income.

We're looking for Referral Partners to introduce us to businesses that could benefit from expert energy cost management.

About the role:
  • This is not a direct hire or salaried position. Referral Partners are independent and earn commission for introductions that lead to new clients.
  • There's no requirement to leave your current role or take on a full-time commitment.
What you'll do:
  • Leverage your network to introduce us to business owners or decision makers
  • Facilitate an initial introduction or call
  • We handle the rest of the process
Why it's worth it:
  • Flexible and low time commitment
  • No change to your current job or business
  • Ongoing commission potential
  • High relevance, as companies are actively looking to better manage energy costs
Great fit for:
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Accountants
  • Lawyers
  • Commercial insurance brokers
  • Engineers
  • Former utility account managers
  • Commercial real estate brokers or asset managers

If you have a strong network and want to create an additional income stream without taking on a new role, we'd love to connect.
