Controller
Location: Goshen, NY – full-time onsite
Compensation: $100,000 - $150,000 depending on experience

About the Company/Role:
CFS has partnered with a growing insurance agency based in Goshen, NY to identify their new Controller. The Controller will lead the accounting function and oversee all financial activities of the organization, including financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. This individual will partner closely with executive leadership to provide financial insights that drive business decisions. The company offers strong work/life balance and competitive benefits.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and commissions.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and profit & loss reports.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee and review bank reconciliations, deposits, disbursements, and financial account reconciliations.
  • Supervise accounts receivable collections and ensure timely resolution of outstanding balances.
  • Oversee accounts payable processes and ensure proper coding and timely payment of invoices.
  • Review and approve monthly producer commission reporting and direct bill payable reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of insurance company statements with AMS360; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage payments to insurance companies and wholesalers based on account current reports.
  • Support and lead the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors and preparing required documentation.
  • Provide leadership, training, and oversight to accounting staff, including mentoring and performance management.
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards.
  • Assist in system improvements and optimization of accounting processes, including AMS360.
  • Perform other strategic and operational finance duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in the insurance industry or agency accounting preferred.
  • Familiarity with agency management systems such as AMS360, BenefitPoint, TAM, or EPIC highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and improve processes in a fast-paced environment.
