What is a Commission 1099 Nurse?

A Commission 1099 Nurse is a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse who works as an independent contractor, rather than a traditional employee, and is paid based on commissions or the number of services provided. These nurses typically receive a 1099 tax form instead of a W-2, meaning they are responsible for their own taxes and benefits. Commission 1099 Nurses often have flexible schedules and may work for multiple agencies, healthcare providers, or in specialized roles such as home health, insurance assessments, or medical sales.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Commission 1099 nurse?

To thrive as a Commission 1099 Nurse, you need an active RN or LPN license, a solid background in clinical nursing, and experience working independently. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and billing software is often required. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and excellent communication are crucial for building client relationships and managing a flexible workload. These abilities are vital for delivering quality patient care while efficiently handling the autonomy and business aspects of independent nursing practice.

How does collaborating with healthcare teams typically work for a Commission 1099 nurse?

As a Commission 1099 Nurse, you often work independently but maintain close communication with physicians, case managers, and sometimes other nurses contracted by the same agency or client. You may attend team meetings virtually or in person to coordinate patient care and ensure everyone is aligned on treatment plans. Timely documentation and proactive updates are key, as your schedule may not always overlap with others on the team. Building strong relationships and clear channels for communication can make collaboration smoother and more effective.

We partner with healthcare organizations across the country and help them hire top clinical talent through a contingency-based recruitment model.

We are urgently expanding our recruiting team and are looking for motivated, entrepreneurial recruiters who want the freedom of remote work, the upside of commission-based earnings, and the support of an established healthcare staffing company.

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity designed for recruiters who want to build a profitable recruiting desk without being capped by a traditional salary structure.

The Opportunity

As a Healthcare Recruiter with HealthPlus Staffing, you will be responsible for building candidate pipelines, developing client relationships, and managing searches from initial outreach through placement.

This role is ideal for someone who is:

  • Experienced in recruiting, sales, business development, or healthcare staffing

At HealthPlus Staffing, you get the ability to build your own desk while receiving the support, tools, training, mentorship, and infrastructure of an established national recruiting firm.

We provide the systems, support, guidance, and proven recruiting model. You bring the work ethic, consistency, and drive to produce.

  • Screen and qualify candidates through structured conversations
  • Present qualified candidates to healthcare clients
  • Coordinate interviews between candidates and clients
  • Manage the process from initial contact through offer, acceptance, and placement
  • Maintain consistent activity across candidate sourcing, client development, follow-up, and pipeline management
  • Track activity and pipeline using company systems and processes
