The Commercial Vehicle Division (CVD) is primarily responsible for promoting the safe travel of commercial vehicles on state highways through education and enforcement. This is accomplished by the use of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers (CVEOs) and CVD Troopers conducting driver and vehicle inspections and enforcing size, weight and load laws. Duties The CVEO 2 position enforces certain CFRs, RCWs, and WACs to promote safety on our roadways through both mobile patrol and operation of fixed scale facilities.
As a lead worker, the position helps with scheduling, training, and field supervision. This Position is responsible for: Inspection of commercial motor vehicles and drivers to increase safety and reduce collisions. Provide mentoring, coaching, training and other guidance for detachment CVEO 1s.
Maintain training and certifications. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Minimum of two years as a current, permanent CVEO 1 by June 16, 2026. High School Diploma or GED.
A valid non-probationary, unrestricted Washington State driver's license is required. Successfully complete and maintain Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Certification. Clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
Physically able to crawl under or climb around/over commercial vehicles in order to inspect for compliance with state safety, proper condition, weight, height, length, width, and other configuration laws. Physically capable to lift and deploy portable scales (up to 50 lbs.) to weigh commercial vehicles. Work in an environment that has potential for exposure to hazardous and/or radioactive material
Work in potentially volatile situations with commercial vehicle drivers, work independently - including nights, weekends, and holidays in all types of weather conditions and setting, including private residences, offices, truck shops, etc., while keeping supervisor informed at all times. Accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. Perform work accurately and thoroughly
