Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Superintendent is the on-site leader responsible for ensuring projects are executed to plan, safely, on schedule, and to specification. This role requires strong technical knowledge of construction assemblies, consistent application of processes, and effective coordination of field staff and trade partners. The Superintendent ensures that every detail of the project reflects Northstar’s standards and values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Leadership & Project Execution

  • Direct daily field operations with clarity and consistency.
  • Provide structure, guidance, and accountability to field staff and trade partners.
  • Review plans, permits, and specifications to confirm accuracy and scope.
  • Oversee and document submittals, RFIs, inspections, and reports.
  • Complete and submit daily reports documenting site conditions, trade partner progress, safety observations, and any issues requiring follow-up.

Schedule & Cost Management

  • Develop and maintain three-week lookaheads with clearly defined milestones.
  • Track and verify trade partner progress to align with schedule.
  • Review change orders in detail and provide accurate input to project teams.
  • Identify risks early and apply corrective actions to maintain project alignment.

Quality & Risk Management

  • Apply Northstar’s quality standards consistently across all work.
  • Enforce safety policies and ensure jobsite compliance through regular inspections.
  • Document observations and follow through on corrective measures.

Collaboration & Relationships

  • Maintain communication with NCS office, owners, architects, and engineers to resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients and trade partners.
  • Reinforce Northstar’s culture of accountability, teamwork, and trust.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3–5 years of commercial construction superintendent experience.
  • Strong background in ground-up, retail, office, or restaurant projects.
  • Proven ability to manage details, enforce standards, and ensure compliance.
  • Must be willing to travel most of the time.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors simultaneously, keeping trades sequenced and productive.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish - strongly preferred.
  • Willing and able to travel and work across multiple jobsites in a given week.
  • Trustworthy and dependable - our team, clients, and trade partners need to be able to count on you.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
