Commercial Solar Sales information

What is commercial solar sales?

Commercial solar sales involves selling solar energy systems and solutions to businesses, organizations, and other non-residential clients. Professionals in this field assess the energy needs of commercial properties, present cost-saving and environmental benefits, and guide clients through the purchasing and installation process. They often work with building owners, facility managers, and financial decision-makers to tailor solar solutions that meet specific energy and budget requirements. The goal is to help businesses reduce energy costs and their carbon footprint by adopting solar energy.

What are some common challenges faced by commercial solar sales professionals when working with business clients?

Commercial Solar Sales professionals often encounter challenges such as navigating complex decision-making processes within client organizations and addressing concerns about upfront costs and ROI. Building trust and educating clients about the long-term financial and sustainability benefits of solar energy are key parts of the role. Additionally, sales professionals frequently collaborate with engineers, project managers, and finance teams to customize solutions and ensure smooth project implementation. Staying current with industry regulations and incentive programs is also essential to effectively guide clients through their purchasing decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commercial solar sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Commercial Solar Sales professional, you need strong sales acumen, knowledge of renewable energy solutions, and typically a background in business or engineering. Familiarity with CRM software, solar modeling tools, and certifications like NABCEP can enhance technical credibility. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help build trust with clients and close deals. These competencies are crucial for effectively navigating complex sales cycles, offering tailored solutions, and driving business growth in the competitive solar industry.

Common Search & ComparisonCommercial Solar Sales vs Residential Solar Sales

Commercial Solar Sales involves selling large-scale solar solutions to businesses and organizations, focusing on B2B relationships and complex projects. Residential Solar Sales targets homeowners, offering smaller systems for personal use. While both roles require solar industry knowledge and sales skills, the target clients, project size, and sales approach differ significantly.

Is commercial solar sales hard?

Commercial solar sales can be challenging as it involves understanding complex technical details, building relationships with business clients, and navigating lengthy sales cycles. Success often requires strong communication skills, industry knowledge, and sometimes certifications in solar or renewable energy. The role can be competitive but rewarding for those with sales experience and technical aptitude.

Current Electric is looking for a driven Commercial Solar Sales Consultant who knows how to develop relationships, build a strong B2B pipeline, and close consultative sales.

Why Join Current Electric?

  • Allowance package with automotive allowance or company vehicle options
  • Marketing-generated leads plus the freedom to build your own pipeline
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus company-paid life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match up to 4%
  • Paid vacation and holidays

What You Will OwnDevelop New Commercial Business

Identify and pursue commercial solar opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, and trade events. Build relationships with business owners, executives, and facility leaders.

Manage the Full B2B Sales Cycle

Lead opportunities from outreach through discovery, proposal, negotiation, and close, with consistent follow-up and a professional customer experience.

Sell Solutions, Not Products

Learn each customer's business and energy needs, then recommend the right combination of commercial solar, battery storage, and generator solutions.

Communicate the Business Case

Clearly explain project costs, incentives, and ROI so customers understand the financial impact of their investment.

Build Persuasive Proposals

Coordinate site visits and work with internal teams to develop accurate quotes and presentations.

Maintain an Organized Pipeline

Use CRM and solar design tools, including ServiceTitan and SolarGraph, to manage leads and forecast results.

What We Are Looking For
  • At least one year of successful B2B, commercial, or consultative sales experience
  • A demonstrated ability to prospect, develop relationships, and close business
  • Experience selling solar, energy, electrical, construction, or other complex solutions is strongly preferred
  • Confidence communicating with business owners and operational decision-makers
  • Strong discovery, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills
  • Ability to explain financial value, savings, and return on investment
  • A self-directed, competitive approach and comfort using CRM systems
  • Willingness to attend networking events and occasional evening or weekend appointments
  • Ability to reliably commute to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, or relocate before starting
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company's driver insurance policy
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Authorization to work in the United States now and in the future without employment visa sponsorship

Commercial solar experience is highly valued, but it is not the only path to success. If you have a strong B2B sales record and can confidently guide customers through complex purchasing decisions, we want to hear from you.
