2nd Shift Refrigeration Repair Technician


Location: Greenville, Michigan

Reports to: Assembly Supervisor

Employment Status: Hourly non-exempt


Middleby Refrigeration is seeking a skilled and hands-on Refrigeration Repair Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and validating commercial refrigeration systems within a production and service environment.


The Refrigeration Repair Technician plays a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, product quality, and customer satisfaction by accurately identifying failure modes and completing repairs to specification. This position requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills, sealed-system refrigeration expertise, and copper brazing proficiency.

Expected Hours of Work:


This position is full-time. The general scheduled workdays are Monday through Thursday 10 hour shifts, Overtime may be required based on business needs.


Position Overview:


The Refrigeration Repair Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and validating commercial refrigeration equipment. This includes diagnosing electrical and refrigeration failures, performing sealed system repairs, brazing copper components, evacuating and recharging systems, and verifying performance to specification.


This role also supports quality initiatives by identifying incorrect prior diagnoses, performing root-cause analysis, and helping prevent repeat failures.


Responsibilities:


Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Diagnose electrical and refrigeration failures in commercial refrigeration equipment
  • Troubleshoot control boards, sensors, wiring harnesses, valves, and compressor circuits
  • Repair sealed refrigeration systems including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and metering devices
  • Evacuate, leak test, and recharge refrigeration systems to specification
  • Verify system performance and operational compliance after repair


Brazing & Refrigerant Work

  • Perform copper brazing and component replacement on sealed systems
  • Replace compressors, driers, evaporators, process tubes, and related components
  • Ensure proper refrigerant handling in accordance with EPA and company standards


Root Cause Analysis & Quality Support

  • Investigate repeat failures or previously misdiagnosed repairs
  • Determine true failure mode versus symptom-based part replacement
  • Provide feedback to improve diagnostic accuracy and prevent recurrence
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within production and service operations

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):

  • EPA Section 608 Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a production and service environment
  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work with tools, gauges, and diagnostic equipment
  • To pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
