Job description

Commercial Project Manager
Location: Brooklyn, NY | Hours: Full-time, 40 hrs/week | Status: Exempt, Salaried
About the Role
Are you someone who can hold their own in a pre-construction meeting and on a rooftop? Brooklyn SolarWorks is looking for a Commercial Project Manager who brings both the organizational rigor of a seasoned PM and the hands-on instincts of someone who has worked in the field.
In this role, you'll own commercial solar projects from sales handoff through final closeout - coordinating clients, subcontractors, engineers, and internal BSW teams to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within scope. You'll be the connective tissue between the office and the job site, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks whether you're reviewing a set of drawings, managing a permit timeline, or standing on-site during installation.
We know this combination of skills is rare, and we mean it: if you have strong project management experience but are newer to field/construction work - or if you're deeply experienced in construction but newer to formal PM processes - we want to hear from you. What matters most is drive, adaptability, and a genuine interest in solar.
What You'll Do
Project Onboarding & Development
  • Attend sales meetings and commercial surveys to provide early-stage project guidance
  • Vet and confirm project details including contract terms, financing, and scope
  • Coordinate with engineering partners, procurement, and design teams on final system designs
  • Serve as the primary client-facing point of contact from kickoff through closeout
Project Advancement & Scheduling
  • Lead weekly commercial operations meetings to review pipeline and forecast installation schedules
  • Coordinate with permitting teams to hit timelines; manage design changes and change orders
  • Confirm and manage subcontractor agreements; maintain up-to-date project records in CRM
On-Site Management
  • Schedule and attend pre-construction site visits and site prep
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact during installation, with thorough knowledge of plans, materials, and methods
  • Manage BSW crews and/or subcontractors to BSW standards; ensure full Safety compliance
  • Coordinate any additional scope: electrical upgrades, special equipment, site prep
Post-Installation & Client Support
  • Obtain inspection sign-offs, register system monitoring, and complete warranty/insurance filings
  • Coordinate subcontractor payment release and confirm close-out obligations
  • Provide tier-one monitoring support and answer client billing and tax credit questions
  • Resolve or escalate customer issues post-installation
Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current on industry trends; recommend process and policy improvements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to increase project efficiency

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in at least one of these two areas - project management or construction/field work - and a clear willingness to grow in the other. If you have both, even better.
Required:
  • 3+ years of experience in construction trades, construction management, or project management
  • Ability to read architectural and construction drawings
  • Strong familiarity with standard construction practices, materials, and methods
  • Excellent communication and relationship-management skills - clients, vendors, subs, and crews
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and ability to learn new software quickly
  • Valid NYS driver's license (held 3+ years, clean record in last 36 months) - up to 50% commuting
  • OSHA certification or SST (62-hr) - or willingness to obtain
  • Familiarity with NYC and State building, construction, and zoning codes
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Brooklyn SolarWorks currently does not offer visa sponsorship.
Nice to Have:
  • Solar or renewable energy industry experience
  • Construction Management or Project Management formal training or certification
  • Experience with SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar design tools
  • Familiarity with project management software or CRMs
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

Compensation & Perks
Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000 commensurate with experience
Benefits:
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance - BSW covers 100% of employee premiums on select medical plans
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan (Traditional & Roth) with 4% tiered company matching - eligible after 6 months
  • Quarterly profit-sharing bonus
  • Paid Time Off + 11 company holidays
  • Pre-tax commuter transportation benefit (MTA MetroCard)
  • HSA and FSA options
  • Free Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
