Job description

Role:

The Vice President of Commercial Lending is responsible for leading the Credit Union's commercial lending function, with primary responsibility for business development, commercial member relationships, loan growth, deal structuring, and overall department performance. Reporting to the Chief Lending Officer, the VP works closely with the Commercial Credit Portfolio Manager, Commercial Lending Generalist, Risk Management, and Octant (Credit Union Service Organization) to support responsible growth while maintaining strong credit quality and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Lead the Commercial Lending Function: Provide leadership and direction for commercial lending, including business development, loan production, relationship management, team priorities, and achievement of established growth and performance objectives.

Drive Commercial Business Development: Develop new commercial loan and deposit relationships, expand existing relationships, build referral sources, and represent the Credit Union within the business community.

Manage Commercial Relationships: Serve as the primary relationship leader for significant commercial members and prospects, identifying lending, deposit, and other financial-service opportunities.

Lead Loan Structuring and Pipeline Management: Manage commercial opportunities from initial discussion through approval and closing. Work with the Commercial Credit Portfolio Manager and Octant CUSO to structure appropriate loan terms, pricing, collateral, guarantees, and covenants.

Provide Leadership to the Commercial Lending Team: Directly supervise the Commercial Lending Generalist and provide functional oversight and coordination with the Commercial Credit Portfolio Manager to ensure commercial lending priorities, workflows, and member needs are effectively managed.

Manage the Octant Financial Relationship: Provide management oversight of the Credit Union’s relationship with Octant CUSO, including service levels, workflow, communication, turnaround times, and overall performance. Partner with the Portfolio Manager on underwriting, annual reviews, and credit-related matters handled through Octant.

Oversee Commercial Portfolio Performance: Review portfolio reporting and trends, including growth, concentrations, delinquencies, criticized assets, risk-rating changes, policy exceptions, and emerging risks. Work with the Chief Lending Officer and Portfolio Manager to ensure identified concerns are appropriately addressed.

Lead Significant Credit and Problem Loan Strategies: Participate in commercial credit decisions within established authority and lead management strategies for significant criticized, delinquent, or higher-risk relationships in coordination with the CLO, Portfolio Manager, Risk Management, Octant CUSO, and other appropriate parties.

Partner with the Chief Lending Officer: Serve as a key partner to the CLO on commercial lending strategy, pricing, products, portfolio composition, concentration management, staffing, CUSO utilization, policies, and other lending initiatives. Provide appropriate commercial lending updates and recommendations to management and lending committees.
