Job Summary: The Sales Engineer serves as a technical resource responsible for developing accurate, cost-effective metal building estimates and preliminary designs that meet customer requirements, applicable building codes, and Whirlwind's manufacturing standards. This role supports revenue growth by translating project requirements into technically sound, manufacturable solutions and by acting as a key technical liaison across commercial, engineering, and estimating functions.

The Sales Engineer applies expertise in structural systems, materials, and construction methods to ensure proposed solutions align with company standards, manufacturing capabilities, and overall project objectives.

Key Responsibilities: 

Prepare accurate metal building estimates and preliminary designs using pricing and design tools.

Ensure estimates comply with current building codes, design standards, and manufacturing requirements

Use value-engineering to deliver cost-efficient, buildable, and optimized design solutions

Review project documents to identify missing information, discrepancies, and required clarifications; appropriately qualify estimates

Provide technical guidance for non-standard or complex design conditions

Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Estimating teams to clarify scope, assumptions, and design intent

Support training efforts for Sales and Estimating teams related to pricing tools, design concepts, and best practices

Maintain continuous improvement in technical knowledge, productivity, and engineering capability

Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related technical field

3+ years of PEMB experience or experience in related structural/metal building fields

Proficiency with engineering/estimating software (e.g., MBS) and Microsoft Office

Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings

Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy

Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical audience

Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple deadlines
