Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Controller who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and leading by example. This role oversees the accounting function while partnering closely with ownership and operations to improve financial visibility, strengthen internal controls, and support profitable growth. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing strategic leadership with day-to-day execution.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the month-end close process, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and overall accounting operations.
  • Partner with operations to improve job costing, Work in Process (WIP), revenue recognition, profitability analysis, and business performance.
  • Develop and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and compliance with tax, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary financial contact for banks, auditors, bonding companies, and external tax advisors.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of construction, contracting, or project-based accounting experience.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and month-end close.
  • Experience leading accounting teams of approximately 5-10 employees.
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to both manage and perform accounting responsibilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and accounting software experience.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
