Job Summary
This position adjusts physical damage only claims for business and private passenger auto policies. The adjuster sets up the claim, investigates the accident or loss, determines coverage applicability or exclusions, makes a liability and deductible decision, applies the appropriate surcharge when applicable and processes payments of both direct and subrogation claims.
Responsibilities
  • Set up claims from information received via fax, mail or phone call from our agent, insured, claimant or other person
  • Determine and apply coverage and limits.
  • Gather information from witnesses, claimants and insureds to assess coverage, liability and damages.
  • Handle private passenger and commercial auto claims. Identify bailment and subrogation opportunities.
  • Make liability and deductible decisions and process payments.
  • Fosters and maintain relationships with agents and policyholders through effective communication and excellent customer service skills.
  • Resolve claim issues with insureds, claimants and attorneys.
  • Apply accurate jurisdictional Standards of Fault and appropriate negligence statutes to establish liability.
  • Judiciously utilize vendors to assist with investigations, when necessary.
  • Identify the at-fault party, his/her insurance carrier, if any, and negotiate adverse subrogation claims.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • College degree or commensurate experience required.
  • 2+ years of experience handling personal and commercial auto claims preferred.
  • Demonstrated success handling auto claims.
  • Licensed in New England states preferred.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment.
